Cabstar: from memory the Toughbooks cost about 10 times your netbook, not 3 times You make a good point about the weight too.

What make Netbook did you use please and how much memory did it have.
link
Bought mine from Currys for £249 & I think 2 years cover was £30 or something similar, didn't get more as bound to be something better in a year never mind 2 years which covers for any accidental damage, as I use mine at music festivals I would not like to take anything more expensive.
I upgraded the memory to 2 gig with a 2 gig module from play.com for £19.99 delviered. The netbook comes with XP as standard so runs pretty quick.
What I like is that it has built in 3G so no need for any dongles or stuff sticking out of it, even has an SDHC port built in so literally take card out of body dump in netbook. Runs lightroom pretty good, not rapidly fast but well workable.
Definately an alternative to panasonic Toughbooks etc... I certainly felt more comfortable having a £250 netbook than a laptop which could cost triple that, along with all my other gear I have to carry too the weight is a godsend.

well used my netbook at Glastonbury, edited a couple of days work in the camping field & actually managed to get a 3G signal, using a T Mobile sim card which was free from their website, topped up with £5 credit gave me 10 days free internet access. Worked a treat & no worries about an unexpected bill coming through the door.
battery life using standard battery was 3.5 hours I have a 12v laptop charger so put it in the boot of my car which has a cigar lighter socket & charged it up ready for the next day.
I shot over 50 gigabytes through the weekend so the netbook proved valuable in backing up the memory cards through the weekend.
Can't recommend it enough.

For live music & festivals definitely with the grip. Balances out the camera when using 50-135mm. First proper use with it was at Glastonbury couple of weeks ago, shot approx 1100 shots before batteries needed changing, I am sure the batteries last longer with the grip, also focusing speed is faster I am sure, focus I feel locks on straight away even in low light conditions.
For event photography definitely a must for the grip, just for the pro look, its amazing how differently people respond to your photo requests when you have a grip on, always get asked who am I working for??
If I am doing landscapes or sunsets then no grip required

Do they continue selling lenses & bodies at a loss, resulting in business failure guaranteed???
Do they increase prices to cover the costs & overhead increases to try & stay in business???
No business wants to put prices up especially given the current climate, however by not putting prices up they risk business failure a lot more rapidly, no business can carry on giving stock away for less than cost price across its whole range.
