To grip or not to grip

Just wondered what you folks do, I have the Battery grip for the k10d, Just not sure if i like it, I find that it makes it look more impressive, However more clunky , not sure weather to just carry spare batteries around

Sometimes it is on the camera and sometimes off.

The nuisance is that I need to remember where I put the two covers for teh contacts! It would have been nice to have a slot in the grip to take the camera contact cover as that is essential to the weather proofing.

I'm not fond of grips and I just carry a spare battery in my pocket, I think I might be in the minority here though

You're not alone, I don't use grips either. It just makes the camera bigger and heavier and spoils the ergonomics, IMHO anyway.

I do like that my hand is slightly angled when using a lens and the QR plate is used for that.

Grip everytime.

Does have a space to hold the rubber cover from the camera, not sure how you missed that!

As for spoiling the ergonomics, for me it improves them. It's definately a marmite product!

I have a K200D, and two factors I took into consideration were that it ran on AA's and that it is compact. A grip would kind of negate both those features!

I bought the K20 for it's heavy chunky feel and find the grip adds to it.

Oops ... found that now. Don't know why I missed it either.

The K20 handles so much better with the grip, more so when fitted with the 50/135 or the DA300. I have large hands and it gives me more to get hold of, but that aside the balance is much more comfortable!......Ken

Grip every time for me too! I have large hands, so handling the camera with the grip is ergonomically brilliant for me. Then there's the extra battery power available with the flip of a switch - but the most important feature aside from handling is the spare SD card holder!

A few times before having the grip (and with my other DSLR's in the past) I'd forget to put back the SD card from my card reader back in the camera, and go "doh!" when I've gone somewhere with my camera. Not any more!!!

Also with the gip and the DA*50-135 the balance is much better.

And lets not forget vertical shooting!

I have never used a grip. The K20 is already too big for me so adding a grip would be just pointless. The Ds never had a grip so it was never an option then.
I carry a spare battery with me, but I rarely have to change batteries whilst out. I also always have a spare SD card or two with me.

I have tried without the grip, but I hate it.
I have small hands but I find the ergonomics are just perfect with the grip.
Having all the extra memory and power etc right there is priceless.
I don't use a strap so the extra finger holds are really useful when walking around. It just hangs there ready to go from any angle (including upside down quite often).
