You have to admire Pentax, there is no other company I know of that would bring out a new all singing all dancing updated model and then raise the price of the older unit by 25%.

This was already expected. If you look at my comments on that thread when we had been to SRS for the open day for K7 I did mention that when I asked Chris how come the K7 was priced so high compared to K20D he said that when his stock of K20D finishes the new ones will be at half the price of the K7.
So we have been warned.

I guess the GX20 at Dixon's at the airport at £305 with the kit lens is starting to seem pretty cheap now .

So any volunteers to get hold of a few of them and sell off to any members interested?

Every move Pentax UK makes on pricing . . . helps to make other makers gear look more attractive .

Great strategy Pentax UK . . . not.

Mike, shall we make a list then of anyone interested in the GX20?

Then I can contact him again,

I dont understand Pentax i really dont. They are less prolific than the other manufacturers but do nothing to get/keep customers.

The 25% increase directly reflects the fall in the value of the pound. Certainly it is not good for us, but if the margins on the K20D are not that great any more (it used to be almost £1K new) Pentax might have been losing money on the old stock thanks to the exchange rate.

If they keep the price and have to sell at a loss they might as well shut up shop

Well I guess that answers my question elsewhere.

The price increases seem to be rather random. If it was related to the £ one would assume the rise would be proportional to the price. As it is the body goes up 25%, the 60-250 seems set to go up about 40% and the 50-135 about 80%.

Odd.

In parts alone it would be costing pentax peanuts.

The K20D is still pretty good value for what it offers in my book

Good job I bought mine 2 weeks ago at £519....personally I think Pentax seems to be trying to commit commercial suicide in the UK.

It has now reached the price that we pay here in Aust, Lets hope the the K-7 drops to the same price we are paying, and normality returns to the world.

There's normality?

In todays financial climate it seems that all firms are struggling to survive.

Over the top price rises will only hit sales, meaning the numbers sold will drop, and also the profit, so prices will rise again......

In the end we wont be able to afford the remote, let alone the camera to go with it!

Let's hope you're right Clarky!
Cheers, HG

K110+DA40, K200+DA35, K3 and a bag of lenses, bodies and other bits.

Mustn't forget the Zenits, or folders, or...

PPG entries.

Here is a link for a price development graph for K20d:s in Finland in some places. Some of these are internet shops, but at least Topshot is not one.
