Ive not had a computer with a laser reader for almost five years now. I have no optical readers in the house and no longer have any physical media in the house I just don’t have a need for it.

Pentax are being luddites here and Pentax are not the only ones guilty of dreadful customer service. Some companies totally get it Apple and Amazon for example and that’s why they are hugely successful and no matter how much you may dislike those companies this is exactly why people use these companies it’s why I do.

Someone else in this thread mentioned Nikon their customer support is dreadful, truly dreadful I recently returned a camera for a recall repair and after phoning them and asking for a turnaround time and being told it would 10 days max it was sat on a shelf for 30 days before being repaired. This is for a pro level camera for a professional photographer. Their NPS program now requires the latest lenses and latest single digit bodies. I know many pros are jumping to Fuji because of their excellent support, updating of firmware with user requests and basically listening to their customers.

It won’t be technology that kills these companies off it will be their total lack of customer support and ignorance.

Weddings find my music and festival projects. I make very little money from agencies with images being sold for pennies it’s a race to the bottom.

Nah I’m used to 24megapixel 7fps now so wouldn’t settle for less than that now

These problems can be avoided by simply specifying what images can be used for when giving them away. And giving them away is the concern here if they’re given to a commercial organisation with no restrictions then they will be used how they want.

Local news pays very little for images. I had an image of a local shop on fire and finally settled on a fee of £25 and then had to remind them numerous times to pay me.

I now do a lot of PR work for companies that ends up in the papers where the company pays me for my time and licensing far more lucrative than sending to local newspapers and my work is still published in the local rag win win

Been a subscriber to the photography package since it came out and have absolutely no regrets.

The cost savings on having to buy photoshop updates every two years is a massive plus and adobe have provided regular updates which wouldn’t have been possible under the old method having to wait for product launch.

The classic and cc route recognised that more people are editing on iPad pros particularly professionals and news gatherers. This is how the world is going so Adobe rightly in my mind are providing two very good products. The speed update of Lightroom is particularly welcome as is using embedded previews.

The regular subscription model also allows Adobe to predict their financial returns in their products which must have been fairly static under disc buying system.

I think the main issue here is going to be lens distortion distorting the image particularly with the kit lens.

Best option would be a prime lens and depending on whether your photographing them on a wall or the floor or desk I would opt for the plastic fantastic 35mm very little distortion and great colour rendering.

The K20 will be fine for this kind of work as it doesnt require fast processing and i would be shooting artwork at f8 and on a tripod to improve sharpness.

If shooting artwork on the wall then this will be difficult as i imagine the gallery will have lights above work which casts shadows on the work.
