Adobe nightmare

I have signed up recently to Adobe CC which gives me Lightroom Classic and Photoshop.

I was getting error messages everytime I started my computer that Adobe CC needed repairing and so decided to tackle the issue. The answer seemed to be to uninstall CC and reinstall as administrator.

First hurdle was that CC would not uninstall unless Photoshop and Lightroom were uninstalled first. Ok i did that. Then uninstalled CC but was told it uninstalled with errors. Hmmmmph. Ran the Adobe clean-up tool. ran a registry cleaner all seemed good. Reinstalled CC as admin but it would not let me re-install LR or Photoshop.

So then went for the nuclear option. uninstall everything Adobe on the computer. After uninstalling Elements/Reader/Flash, i then set about deleting every left over Adobe folder i could find. Problem was there is a folder which contains Adobe GC Client which checks the licencing of products. This needed to be uninstalled in windows safe-mode. Then ran a registry cleaner.

Now was able to re-install CC (as admin) and photoshop and Lightroom. In order to get Lightroom as I had it before I now need to reinstall Elements, import the elements catalogue (which contains all my tags and collections from the last 10 years of photography)into LR and I should be good to go.

I think i have used the entire gamut of swear words this afternoon in accomplishing this feat.

It's working OK for me, no viruses just a couple of small bugs but after a couple of updates it seems to be OK.

Oh boy....and here was me, praising Adobe like never before for the last update that not only went smoothly, but Lightroom is now relatively speedy, even with K1 files Hope at least the performance will make up for the hassle to you.

There was a big thing about it on the gadget show that it was full of viruses as most programs use it it’s the easiest way in

I think you mean it is at risk of viruses because of its popularity. Any good AV system will not allow viruses onto the computer.

Pleased I don't use Adobe CC then! And I believe you have to pay them a monthly fee for the privilege of corrupting your PC. No thanks.

Never had it corrupt anything here. Strange accusation.

Did you read Peter's original post? Anyhow, Adobe = bloatware = avoid!

PS, Try Foxit rather than Adobe reader. Much better.

Adobe flash? Dangerous; a security nightmare and not really supported any more.

Hmm...bloatware? What bloatware? Never had anything else on my PC other then what I wished/paid for. As for avoid, given they happen to be the industry standard, avoiding might be difficult, unless you opt for Phase One option at even higher rate Tech isn't evil. People behind it can be. At this level of reputation however, it is unlikely anyone would risk silliness for the sake of it. One thing that isn't trust worthy is 'news' sources nowadays....

Bloatware? Not just my view. They've been renowned for it for as long as I can remember (a long time!)

Yes. I wasn't accusing him of lying, I felt that the accusation that stemmed from the Gadget Show comments was a bit odd. As I say never had an issue so far.

Haven't seen that, what did they say?
I've spent spent hours trying the clean Adobe programs off my computer but still there's traces of them left behind after their useless installers failed to do the job properly.

Ok Finally got it sorted. Reinstalled everything ok. imported my Elements catalogue into LR and I am back up and running.

Tomorrow will backup the catalogue in LR.

I know Adobe have been labelled bloatware for many years, but I have used Elements for years and now I have Photoshop i am very happy with that. I have dealt with equally troublesome installations in the past. At least i was was able to uninstall and reinstall in hours rather than days !

Used Photoshop for ten years now. Never had any major incidents. There's a lot of scare mongering goes around about it. If you use any of the alternatives. Good luck in tethering your Pentax....!!
