It seems that the app didnt cover the UK, it covers observatory in norway on north america but not in the UK
http://kho.unis.no/Forecast.htm
And when watching the diagrams on this website, many locales on the planet are covered: Scandinavia, China, Alaska, etc. The UK is also covered on this website. The most important thing with this app is that it is updated every 15 minutes and that it shows the intensity of the Northern Lights. In other words, if the forecast predicts aurora level 9 it will be visible in as far south as Spain

Although the page is in Norwegian, you can find the download menu at the bottom of the page on the right hand side. The iPhone app can also be found at the Apple App Store. I have not tried this app myself, relying on stone age technology (Sony Ericsson W810i:shock, but a friend of mine is very impressed with the aurora app on his iPhone4.
I have mostly used the Fairbanks Alaska forecast linked by Gwyn in the previous post.

I think the star trails critical shutter speed may actually vary depending on whether you're pointing your camera towards the equator or a pole, but I'm not good enough at maths to work out how.. Paul
I hope your travel to Sweden will be successful!

All the images were taken at 12mm with ISO 1600 and f4.
Shutter speeds:
1. 20 sec
2. 20 sec
3. 13 sec
4. 13 sec
5. 15 sec
Based on my humble calculations, star trails will appear with longer exposures than 33,33 seconds at 12mm
(600:12:1,5 crop factor). So with my set-up (at 12mm) I never use longer exposures than 30 seconds for this kind of night photography.
