can you explain what you mean by this joe,

(quote) I guess I will have to crop that person out cos it will make an unsightly picture having the portrait subject in focus and the person next to her out of focus. Hopefully I can learn not to be reliant on spot metering when two people are in the frame.
Scott, I think he is referring to the spot metering of the AF.
I believe the problem is that his DOF was to shallow to include both persons.

Joe, if you can post the photo for us that would be very helpfull to give you some comments because we have nothing to work with now

some of the potraits came out slightly out of focus because they were adjacent to the subject of the potrait. what can I do in Photoshop to unfocus those images ?
If you print it on a small size you can get away with quite alot you know
if it's only slightly unfocused, copy the photo into another layer and run an unsharpen mask as sugested and just erase (mask) everything except the person that need to be sharpend in that layer so that you see the original layer again.
That's the only option I can think of so good luck

We were playing in the shop with it (without reading the manual) so we called Pentax service about how to get the wireless to work.
He said that we should set the channel on the flash to match the one on the camera and I asked him if we couldn't change the one in the camera instead of the flash and he said you couldn't change that.
It doesn't matter if you need the flash to change it because you can change it and he said you couldn't, it's quite a black and white matter in my eyes.
He was helpfull enough though and the flash worked in the end so no problems with them, I'm quite happy even because like I said we didn't even read the manual

btw you can only change the channel of the camera if it appears in the top view lcd it seems, just tried.

You can change the cameras communication channel to match the flash.

The camera and the flash need to communicate on the same channel. Once you have set your channel on the flash (and there's no real need to change it from the default of 1 in a simple setup) attach the flash to the camera hot shoe, then turn on the camera and the flash. The camera body will then synchronize with the flash and be set to the same communication channel.
wow learning a lot today
we even called to Pentax for that and they said you can't change it so guess they werent right

Press and hold the light/format button until the slave mode appears. Press the S button to change it. Slave mode 1 = wireless slave mode (intelligent), slave mode 2 = dumb slave mode.
Thanks Peter, need to reread the manual again I think

Dumb slave mode simply reacts to another light source. (sometimes even to fluorescent light flikering, etc...)
how do you do that? I always had to have the right channel before the AF540FGZ flashes, it would be handy if i know how to turn it off.

Just went to the Pentax site and I saw this link
I've never seen that one before, is it a new product?
Has someone actually have one and can tell me how it is?
I've been looking for a hand strap for awhile but never found a good one so any recommendation is of course welcome

Slave flash means that it flash when the master or controller flashses.

There are ways to let a flashgun flash off of the camera but you need some equipment for that, but they all work by conecting something to the hotshoe.
Some options are;

- hotshoe-adapter camera > cable > hotshoe adapter for flash.
www.pentaximaging.com look at the bottem to see what I mean.

- infrared hotshoe-apapters, something like these link you need two, one for the camera and one for the flash

- radio hotshoe-adapters, link almost the same as the infrared but this one sort of works also around corners, with infrared the two adapters need to see each other.

Peter, I hope that you can understand my explanation, my English isn't so great lately

To answer your second question, if the AF360FGZ fires it works
Just set the AF360FGZ on manuall and set it to full so that it needs to charge up if it flash so that you know that it works.
To get them to work they need to be on the same channel, that was one I forgot at first.
If you set the build in flash to wireless you see a number in the top display, that's the channel you need to set the flash on since you can't change the channel of your camera
Don't know how to do that with the AF360FGZ since I've the AF540FGZ, sorry
