I'm not sure about the GX-1s, but if it is a knock-off of a Pentax camera, you have to look to its future with flash upgrades.

I'm not convinced that the cost savings is worth it in this case. I know that with the K10D there have already been some serious upgrades to the functionality, but the Samsung GX10 owners are still waiting with no word of availability.

Once Samsung gets rolling with a product they can truly call their own, they may be more responsive. But for now I'd stick with Pentax.

I have a fast card, but not top end... and it is possible that it isn't even up to what it says it is rated.

Thanks for the info. I'll look for the better brands if I run across the need to run that many shots in a row.

Either way, I am still impressed. A lot better performance than the istD.

Anyone else try to see how many jpegs they can shoot until the buffer fills up?
I wanted to see how many photos could be taken on a full battery, and how many shots would fill up the card (on my istD the card read 450 shots, but actually held about a thousand. It simply was not very accurate on compression estimation)

Anyway, I think I got about 20-30 shots at full speed, then the rate dropped to an irregular rate of one to three frames per second.

I personally don't see where I would shoot 20+ frames in a row, but the K10D doesn't appear to live up to advertised specs.

Of course, I never heard the conditions of such tests?
2MP Jpegs??
64MB card?
All black image?

Yeah, and if you use prime lenses I suspect you'll have a lot less problems.
I know of people who say they clean their sensors every week or so with swabs and solution. I've only had to clean mine in the istD about three times in the past year and a half.

So I do suspect even less of a problem with the K10D, BUT... there is always that rogue piece of crap that Murphy sends my way that just wont blow off.

It would be worth knowing if I can use my current cleaning kit and do things the way I am used to doing them, or if I will be forced to pay a lab technician to do it for me.

OK, I'm jumping the gun on this as I do not yet have a dust problem. The dust removal system and/or a quick shot with the rocket blower has been working just fine for now. But it has only been a week...

If/when the dust goes beyond these methods, would it be safe to use the same sensor cleaning methods as with other cameras without SR?
I have sensor swabs and eclipse fluid and have done a good job on my istD in the past, but I don't want to break my K10D if this is not a good thing to use.

I know Pentax sells a cleaning kit for the K10D. Anyone know what that consists of and is it similar to standard cleaning kits?

Pete, The Rocket Blower did the trick for me as well.

I do have to say, the K10D sensor is otherwise spot free. Even with manual cleaning, the istD never got completely clean. If all I need to do is blow some air for the big stuff, I can certanily live with that!

Matt, I have a sensor cleaning kit (solution and swabs) that I used for the istD. Any ideas on wheather this would be acceptable in lieu of the Pentax kit? Or is there something special Pentax requires in combination with its floating sensor mechanism?
I'd hate to buy another kit, but I also don't want to experiment on my new K10D.

I had a few large spots of dust on the sensor since the day I got my K10D. Been using the dust removal feature about a dozen times, but they just wont go. So I locked up the mirror and blew in some air and the image is now spotless.

I can certainly hear and feel the mechanism shake, but has anyone actually experienced any worthwhile effects of the dust removal system? It didn't seem to do much in my case.

OK its been a while but I finally got my istD back from repair.
It was noted in an earlier post that the difference between the istD and the K10D should not be so vast.
Well, they were right. The K10D still makes a better image than the istD, but not by as much as I had demonstrated in my prior posting. In fact, I would be hard pressed to tell the difference once an image had been converted to JPEG or printed.

On today's images, I shot in RAW and converted using SilkyPix. (nice program, I may have to buy it once the demo runs out... takes a little getting used to though)

Oddly the K10D seemed to be quite a bit darker and had a bit of a green color cast. Had to adjust that a bit.

You can see the old comparison and new comparisons here.

If that is the case, the I suspect the camera has always been a little bit off.
For most images I get acceptable results, it is just those with closer up shots with fine detail that always seemed somewhat disappointing.
Guess I just never knew what to expect. Most photos are still better than the point and shoots so I was ignorantly blissful.

I have two months left on the warranty, so away it goes for re-focusing I guess. Now that I have a 'backup' I don't mind loosing the SLR for a few weeks.

Thanks for the comments.

That would work.. I actually do have a quick and dirty test posted there.

The K10D obviously is slightly larger due to higher resolution, but shrinking it down to fit the istD size still shows a lot more detail. I am rather surprised at how much nicer the K10D image is.
