An interesting thread. My thoughts:

I have always thought of the fortnightly comp as more challenging than the weekly one, after all, it is harder to shoot pictures for a specific subject than to simply scan through past images to find something to conform with the weekly criteria. The only thing that has prevented my fortnightly entries is lack of spare time, but I will be keen to join in when circumstances allow.

I am not convinced that going monthly will help, because as has been previously pointed out, there will still be a tendency to wait until the last week before posting.

The judging. This should not be an issue; simply accept that your opinions will not be shared by everyone and get on with it. We are fortunate that our forum does not get into protracted discussions over the 'quality' of the winning entries.

Lastly, I think that if it were as easy to post on the fortnightly comp as the weekly, it might encourage more entries.

A paint applied on-site, in all weathers, by guys suspended 100s of feet above the river...? OK, maybe 20 years in the laboratory, but my money would be on lots of work for itinerant climber/painters well before 2032.

I still have my old rollei projector, and it is really nice to see large kodachrome images.
Why not buy a replacement projector from ebay? They go for fairly low prices...

It may just be me, but I think that the house really lifts the image, although it may have been more effective set off more to the left.

Thanks for sharing that Roger, very interesting set up!

No idea what the beastie is, but I wouldn't want to find one in my boots.

I really like the second one of the African Grey, and it is particularly well suited to B&W because the only colour on the bird is its red tail.

They were, and still are, cool.

Plus backward compatibility.

Oh dear, too much Talisker.

I suppose the answer to my query is that if you have focussed on the subject but only the front foreground is in focus, then your camera is 'front focussing' and ditto if it focusses behind the subject.

Doh!

But it does seem to front focus on most lenses
Naive question probably, but how can you tell from the image whether the camera is front focussing or back focussing? An out of focus image is simply out of focus? Yes?

I have Martin Evening's guide, and it is certainly comprehensive. However, I find I tend to use Scott Kelby's book (the Adobe Photoshop CS5 Book for Digital Photographers) as it is simpler and easier to follow. It is smaller, about half the size, albeit not as inclusive. If I were to have just one guide, it would be Kelby's book, as my bookshelves groan with detailed reference books that demand inordinate effort simply to find the relevant sections.
