I've not used the ball heads but I have one of the low profile heads and for precision work it's superb. I thought it was a little slow for some stuff so I bought a Slik AF2100 on ebay for £40. I'd known about them for years and always thought they were a gimmick, but I'm amazed how good they are... squeeze the trigger... move the head... release and it's rock solid. Very good quick release as well. I've actually mounted it on top of the Gitzo low profile so I have both sets of movements available. If I want really steady I just take off the Slik and use the Gitzo.

Why anyone would want to identify their camera with a car manufacturer is beyond me. Great concept Ferrari have with their branding, get the punter to pay huge amounts to advertise for them.
Have to admit it looks nice though.

Nice shot. The forum software has reduced it to the correct
800 pixels wide, but it might have made it softer, although
it looks OK. It would be better to post 800 wide to save a
2nd reduction.

With modern digital cameras the viewfinder doesn't darken too much, so with a preset stop it down to f/4 or f/5.6 and forget about it. Meter and focus with it stopped down. It's still brighter than the Kit Lens which is about f/5.6 at 55mm so no need to open up unless you want to use f/1.9

Not quite sure why you'd choose to compare it against those two - the D300s is a much higher-spec camera aimed at a different market (although effectively) replaced by the D7000, and the Alpha 700 is discontinued.

Just to show that DxO DR figures don't tell you much, Kx vs FF ...Kx "beats" D700 and 5DII (orly?:mrgreen
The only reason I chose those two is that I know people who moved to them from Pentax and the Alpha 700 has the same pixel pitch as the K-x. I haven't a clue why you have chosen two FF cameras costing over £2,000 each with much larger pixel pitches?

The Pentax metering looks more accurate than the Nikon and Canon? The Canon looks to be half a stop out

That will be over £1,000 in the UK

My MEF (almost certainly MIJ) which I've had since new still has the gold JCII Passed sticker on it. No other marks indicating origin on the camera though. On all the K cameras they seem to have just printed Asahi Opt. Co., Japan not Made in Japan. On an Olympus OM20 and RD that I've got it actually says "Made in Japan" and on a Chinon just "Japan". I used to have a Mamiya 6 with "Made in Occupied Japan" on it.

It used to be a requirement in the UK that all foreign goods had to display where they were manufactured although at one point they could just put "Foreign". A label was acceptable for this. Not sure when it was abolished.

The K-x is really good for an APS-C camera and it only uses 12 bits. The D300s uses 14 bits, but still hasn't got the DR of the K-x. The Sony Alpha 700 has the same pixel pitch and 12 bits per pixel, but also gets beaten.
