I have had a look on the net, and it seems that Kaspersky is quite highly rated, but it has only had one mention here, surprisingly?
I don't think they do a free version, but it's often given away for 12 months with Bank Accounts etc. It is about the best, but that's not saying much!

I was still at school then, but remember the snow hanging
round for months in the town centres. They eventually employed
people off the dole to clean it away by hand instead of digging
the M6 motorway, which had stopped

Notice the men in that film ...... no wimpy gloves in them
days...... did everything with their bare hands..... men were
men
in them days Must have been hard to catch a rabbit
for tea in all that snow Go home to a cold house and light
the coal fire! Just about getting warm when it's time for
bed!!!...... Blow the Candle Out!! Don't ferget
Guzunder under't Bed..... too Kewld to walk down't
bottom o't Yard!!

Then there was the "thick pee soup" like fog which was
too dark for them to film them were the days!!

Jules, If it's not giving you any problems you are as well
leaving it as it is. Just keep your machine backed up. We
don't have any exact details of how the current protection
works. The biggest problem is for someone running the demo
and then trying to remove it.

I looked at their site and couldn't see any mention of
protection being installed so they are not being open
about it.

I should have added that I did use an Eye-Fi card without any
problems
with the *ist DS. The smaller files transfer quicker
as well.

Comment by Algernon posted on does anybody know if the eye-fi cards will work on a ds2? at 03/12/2010 - 18:22

Nice shot, lucky to get so close and from the front as well
The 2nd one is an improvement. I take it that this is a crop
of part of the frame. It shows the lens is sharp, but you
might have gone just a bit too big for a jpg on the screen.
A little bit smaller would look better.

If you are printing it you would just have to keep the print
smaller than the point where the noise starts to show.

You've explained it well Bret

The Sony protection is explained a bit better
on the EFF Site

Hi Jules, It's not known exactly how the protection works and if it does involve a rootkit it may not be apparent, that's the whole idea behind it. It took a genius Mark Russinovich, (an intrepid computer security researcher as the BBC described him) to notice that Sony were installing a rootkit from some Audio CD's. That resulted in several court cases with Sony paying out something like $175 for each damaged PC and being fined about $5.7M in the USA. link

You can't be too careful

I like DXO but wouldn't use it because of the danger.

Edit: Just noticed this summary on that link I gave:
"Installations of secret software that create security risks are intrusive and unlawful," FTC Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras said in a statement. "Consumers' computers belong to them, and companies must adequately disclose unexpected limitations on the customary use of their products so consumers can make informed decisions regarding whether to purchase and install that content."

It was correctly defined John from:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malware

"Malware, short for malicious software, is software designed to secretly access a computer system without the owner's informed consent. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code."

If your unhappy about it I'm happy to go along with deleting all the
posts apart from the 1st one in this thread. I just didn't like the idea of people messing up their PC's.

This is about the same protection but used on Amarra
