It's the timing on the RF-602 that's at fault it must fire the flash too early, so I would think all Pentax cameras would have the problem. The K20D which I have needs 1/90th.

Reformatting the drive will be a simple matter. The WD Boot floppy would wipe everything off it and let you do whatever you want after.

Windows seems to be very funny regarding recognising drives I've just tried putting one from a Network/Router box into TWO external separate USB enclosures on the PC and XP Pro claims the partitions are unrecognised even though they are only FAT32 I've put it in the PC as the 2nd drive and it showed up straight away

If your still using the RF-602 you won't get any faster than 1/90th without banding. If you don't use the RF-602 you should get 1/180th.

For the big advantage of using the RF-602 I can happily live with 1/90th

TIP: If the transmitter ever goes dead try removing the battery for about 30 secs. It's never happened to me but I heard of it happening to someone else.

Can you delete files, say photographs that you copy to the drive?
In other words is it just the D:Windows directory that you can't delete?

I agree with Peter it would be better with someone else looking at it if possible. What concerns me is why the person that did the new setup didn't delete Vista off the 2nd HDD? Possibly he thought he could do it from Win 7 and then found he couldn't or maybe he had dual booting in mind, although he should have realised that you wouldn't want that.

It won't do any harm to get the WD Boot Disk and just test the disk it might be faulty, then the safest thing to do would be open the case and disconnect the power and IDE or SATA cable from the 2nd HDD then boot the PC and see if Windows 7 gives any warning about not being able to find any files etc. If not I can't see any reason why the 2nd HDD can't be re-formatted.

It's one notch above the "AP Toilet Cleaners Choice of the Year Award"

You will have to check the SN but I think something like

Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for DOS

http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=502&sid=2〈=en

is what's needed.

Make a bootable floppy as described on that page or download

http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=502&sid=30〈=en

to make a bootable CD. You will need burning software such as Nero or the free ImgBurn

Boot up PC from Bootdisk

MAKE SURE THAT YOU SELECT THE CORRECT DRIVE

Run Quicktest to make sure HDD is OK

Use the Write Zeros option to wipe any and all data off the drive.

The drive should now be back to Factory Supplied Condition

Remove floppy

===================================================================

Boot from Windows 7 and partition and format 2nd drive

===================================================================

There is some FREE easy to install partioning software from Easus
that will make life easier and if you were to install that before
anything else it will show you how your drives are currently partitioned.

You could even see if it can do it without running the WD Boot disk or
if Windows 7 stops it?

Pentax are about the best. I don't think you will find anything
else in a K Mount anyway. You can use M42 but need adapters and
even the Pentax one needs an extra extension tube to clear the
projections on the digital camera such as flash housing.

I noticed that they ran the "Marked Sensor" story in TWO consecutive editions instead of the usual once and didn't even have it correct saying that Pentax were repairing (not replacing) faulty cameras.

One pathetic rag

If you can't install tightVNC for Peter to have a look exactly what's on the 2nd HDD you are probably better taking it to someone local or getting a mobile tech to call round.

If there's nothing other than the old Vista on the 2nd HDD the drive manufacture will have a downloadable Boot Disk that will restore the HDD back to EX Factory condition within minutes, ready for re-formatting. The local tech. will also be able to do this after checking that no Windows 7 files are on the 2nd HDD. It's possible that the (My) Documents folder on the 2nd HDD is in use by Win 7?
