Flash Sync speed

whats the flash sync speed in manual mode (with strobes) on a k20d is it faster than a k200d ?
im only able to achieve 1/90 sec on the k200 anything more and i get black lines on the pictures .

Max synch speed on the K20D is 1/180th, the same as your K200D, unless you use High Speed Synch (HSS). With HSS I don't think there is a limit and you can use the maximum shutter speed of 1/4000th (I think). You will need a HSS capable flash though.

If you use exposure mode Tv or M, you should be able to select a shutter speed of 1/180th or longer when the flash is attached and turned on.

If your still using the RF-602 you won't get any faster than 1/90th without banding. If you don't use the RF-602 you should get 1/180th.

For the big advantage of using the RF-602 I can happily live with 1/90th

TIP: If the transmitter ever goes dead try removing the battery for about 30 secs. It's never happened to me but I heard of it happening to someone else.

thanks Peter,Algernon, yes im using the rf602 with no problems so far. we were shopping in Bury at the weekend and i spotted a k20d for sale ,thought it might offer a higher sync speed as well as the higher resolution etc.

Depends very much on the flash model.

Some will only sync at slow speeds while some will do HSS.

It also depends on the flash output.

For example:

A Metz 58 flash at 1/1 power has a flash duration of 1/125 where as it is 1/33000 seconds at 1/256 power.

It's the timing on the RF-602 that's at fault it must fire the flash too early, so I would think all Pentax cameras would have the problem. The K20D which I have needs 1/90th.

the lights are a brace of lastolite 400 , lastolite also do their own radio trigger around the £40 mark. not sure whether this would allow a faster sync speed ?

They fire the flash slightly late due to signal propagation ! but I wouldn't have thought they were that bad !?
they should be able to manage 1/125 at least, if not 1/160 !

Never had a problem at 1/180 myself !??
