It's funny how this has only just become an issue immediately before the Royal Mail was privatised.
What has happened is that honest online traders who abide by the rules have had to accept a massive cost increase when posting lithium batteries by being forced to use Parcelforce or another courier as you can't send them in the regular post, while dodgy unscrupulous traders keep posting them via Royal Mail who don't seem bothered.
A few weeks ago I sent RM an email complaining that exactly this was happening...loads of traders on Ebay openly quoting low postage costs using ordinary post instead of higher courier charges...Royal Mail weren't interested...they said that they were getting round to contacting their customers but that it would take a while..they didn't seem bothered to stamp out this unfair practice at all.

Being AA Nimh or lithium compatible is a major reason for me choosing Pentax DSLRs. If they (Pentax) went one step further and brought out a rechargeable Lithium AA and fitted it to all their new models it would be a major competitive advantage particularly if these models could also continue to use Alkaline AA and NiMh rechargeables.

I've got the Tamron 70-300 which is terrific value for money. I paid £129 for mine but you can get them new now for £100 with a 5 yr warranty!! Got to be the photographic bargain of the decade. I honestly don't know how Tamron do it for the money.
At the end of the day, if you tried one and didn't like it you will probably be able to sell it for only £10-£15 less than you paid for it...not a lot to gamble really and you'd have had some use of it as well.

have also been reduced...so that can't be bad. As northernmonkey said it is probably mainly to boost sales figures by the year end together with the end of the free lens promotion at end of March and also i'm guessing clearing shelves ready for K60/K600 presumably late spring early summer.
