That's a very precise point of focus there! Glad to hear it's working again. Am I right to assume that it was your camera contacts that were at fault? I believe it's the same ones that are used for SDM and DC lenses.
Thanks Nigel, no it was one of the two little brass tabs on the lens that broke, easy enough to replace with a tiny driver and a bit of patience

I have managed to acquire a new set of SDM contacts and fit them so the 16-85 is now working, this was a test.

Tried these with a 1.7 converter on the Da 300 and K3 II

One thing just discovered is that whilst using the Da 300 with pentax 1.7 rear converter I can only get center or spot focusing, I`m unable to move the point which is a real shame for wildlife shots, the Da 300 on it`s own is fine.

Or you could use the rear wheel to zoom screen.

The only complaint I have with mine is that the playback zoom button (ISO button) is right next to the shutter release so that when you try to zoom, you inadvertently cancel the entire playback by hitting the far larger shutter release. Have you tried some hard crops yet? That big sensor really captures the detail.
I have mine set with zoom at the back,(rear wheel)not tried any crops yet.

Could the pre flash be the cause of that shadow?
