I needs to control shots from a distance. The infa red , because of the blinking red light, is out. Can only find one wireless remote. Can anyone point me in the direction for the best option

Blinkin heck

Not quite sure what you mean, is it that your red light no longer flashes and so you require a cable operated remote or do you want wireless versions?

There's a clue in the topic title.

I think what's needed is a wireless receiver attached to the jack socket (cable release) and a wireless (radio) transmitter trigger.

Nope, I ain't seen one of those . . . though Don would probably make you one for a bottle of Bowmore.

EDIT 1: I just found this, which might work. The Canon cable release works with Pentax so maybe this does as well.
EDIT 2: I found this too.

Thanks for the leads, lads. I want to photograph birds at our bird table etc. The infa red remote units work with a red light on the camera that blinks to indicate that the infa red is available. This is a real put off for the birds/squirrels, hence my interest in a wireless remote. All my attempts for Pentax compatable units brought up only the JJC WR 100c model. Thought there could be others but didn't expect Canon models to work with Pentax. The link from SteveT is a Chinese sourced model. What is your experience in buying from there? and what is your reservations for the 30m. models? I would only be a few metres away from the camera in reality. Ron

I would use a wired remote in this situation, I have one with a couple of extension leads that I made myself, over 80 feet in total and very reliable. No batteries to worry about...

Took this with mine.

wow!!! Dan.. You're a man after my own heart. What a smashing pic. I would love to have taken this charming varmit. I had thought of extensions to my remote cable but could not find a source. How did you construct this extension cable? I have just established from Harpers that the Canon wireless remote does trigger a Samsung, so it would also work with the K10. I could show you some shots of squirrels but have no idea how to do so. I'm not a competant user of the Pentax sites but I am eternally grateful for the benefits of these sites. Being on the Isle of Wight has plenty of benefits but getting information and help is a trial. Thanks to all who have taken the effort and time to respond. Ron.

All you need for an extension is some 3 core cable (I actually used this 4 core alarm cable from Maplins, they used to do it in brown), and a 2.5mm stereo socket and plug, and of course a soldering iron.

I made myself a 6m and 20m extension, which gives about 80 feet in total when the cable realease is added in too.

I was sat in my lounge with a cup of tea when the mouse came out in my garden.

As far as showing pics on here is concerned, you can either post them in the Gallery (uploaded direct from your computer), or follow the instructions here if you want to include them in your post like I did above.

Daniel.. Thanks for the response. I don't know anything about Photobucket...have only used Ephotozine which will not let me hotmatch photos. will try and upload a couple of the red squirrel on the Pentax site. Will explore the stereo socket extension but I'm not a hot shot with a soldering iron. What macro lens do you use? I have a Pentax smc A 100mm f4. Would love a 2.8 lens and the DA*300mm...maybe one day. would love to spend a day on one of your courses but the logistics of getting there from the Island is a no..no I'm afraid. regards Ron.

What about a bit of black electricians tape over the red light on the front and infra red trigger from the rear of the camera.

Sticking tape on my beloved K10!!! You cannot be serious!!!! Had thought of this but there is a window behind where I need to position the camera and the reflection of the rear red flashing light would spike any bird or squirrel. Maybe a wireless unit or an extension or even both in the future. I am just so grateful for each and every imput. Maybe you will see the pics that result from your advice in the coming weeks...regards Ron.

That shot was with my old *istD, but the set-up's the same. It was with my old Tamron 300mm f/2.8, prefocused on the branch where the mouse regularly stopped, and then a little patience for him to come back out.

Ronald, I've got a Sigma 105mm macro lens, the old, non-DG version.

The DA*300mm is a lovely lens, excellent for all sorts of shots. I use it for flowers, animals, landscapes...

I could always come over to you and do some one-to-one, but you'd need to pay my travelling... If I'm ever in your area, I'll let you know.
