You have to import them into the organiser on PSE 7, or alternatively open them as new files within the editor. I suggest you look for the book called Photoshop Elements 7 the Missing Manual, and/or the
Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter) by Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski, both good guides. I have them for PSE 6 and the complement each other quite well, but either one will get you started. A lot will depend on whether you like Scott Kelby's style or not. Amazon has them both plus a load of others.
Also have a look at photoshopelementsuser.com.

Thanks I will check out those tomes. So does that mean I have to import each one of my saved images in to the organiser from the hard drive, f so that sounds a nightmare or am I missing a trick.
There are three kinds of people in this world, those that can count and those that can't

You should be able to just import the whole shooting match into the organiser. Under File - get new photos and videos you can just specify the directory with your photos and it will import them, or just press ctrl+shift+G.
It takes a while to set up the organiser how you want it, but once it is done any new images will load into it automatically and you just assign the album/tag etc. Yes, it is a pain to set up initially but well worth it in the end. One thing you do then have to remember to do is to move photos using PSE so it doesn't lose the link to them.
When you back up photos, or off load them to a CD/DVD if you do it through the organiser it keeps the thumbnail and even remembers which disc they are on so you can find them again.
Alternatively ignore the organiser completely and just work with the editor, but then you are missing out on a useful tool imho.

'The Missing Manual' is by Barbara Brundage and as the cover says "The book that should have been in the box".
PSE5 came with quite a good manual but PSE7 has nothing.
Having said that, I think that PSE7 is more user friendly than PSE5.
