Would this change with usb 3? I think it will for me.

When I return home the cards are copied onto my PC using a card reader and then each card formatted ready for use again.
For me, connecting the camera to the PC never happens, so yes, I need to use the card door.

I'll probably stick to using an external SD card reader, as I find that copying fast SDHC cards from K-5 to PC via the usb2 lead is about 25% slower than copying direct from the SDHC card to PC via in an external usb2 reader, and connecting the usb2 reader to a usb3 PC port is even faster than that. Would this change with usb 3? I think it will for me.

K-5 doesn't really benefit from connecting it to a usb3 port on my PC (instead of a usb2 port) which suggests that K-5 internals is the limiting factor. So I'll be surprised if the K3 can transfer via its usb3 lead as fast as an external usb3 card reader connected to a usb3 PC port.

The current top of the range DSLR's from Pentax have "evolved" from a very good core design (the K7), improving in the key areas that many of us wanted (great sensor, better DR, class-leading low-light AF, removal of AA filter, etc.) but from the rumoured specs of the upcoming "K3" (maybe) what would you see as the real benefits?
I think the K-3 might surprise us and have the same high ISO IQ as some FF, bearing in mind Pentax's proven prowess in using Sony sensors.

I hope that is the case but if it is then I can't see how the low iso sample jpegs got to he so noisy.

The K10D design was a lot more secure. They kept it for the battery, why not for the card? It's a bit cheaper to manufacture, I expect, without the key, but much inferior IMO.
I use an Eye-Fi card most of the time, so I don't have to open the card door very often. But if I was forever opening it and closing it, I bet it would wear and become looser over time.
Does that correspond with others' experience?
Nope. never had anything accidentally open the door. Never had any wear on the door and is just as secure and tight fitting on both K-5s after hundreds of door openings and closings.

It's perfectly easy to use, but that's the problem - anything you catch it on, like a snug-fitting bag, is likely to open the card door.I didn't like the SD Card door at first on the K-5 but soon got used to it

I find my Eye-Fi card is a pretty tight fit, but if I release the catch by pushing the card in, if I then 'ping' my fingernail off the edge of the card, the spring then fires the card out far enough to let me get hold of it. I do have fairly small fingers, though. The problem I have with the K-5 card door is that there's no room to get the fingers in to remove the card.

No problems so far with the rubber flap Chris, it's as good as new. I had a few SD cards that started to come apart, due to constantly taking them in and out of the camera.I've always avoided this out of fear for the durability of the rubber flap - how has yours stood up - any signs of cracking or loosening?

Of course but those images show a lot of low iso noise, way more than the K5, horrible blotchy looking noise. Not good. However even though they are supposed to be out of camera the exif indicates (apparently) that they have been run through CS6. So maybe someone has turned the sharpness to 11 and made a hash of the images, a couple of them are truly awful. Clowns.

Connecting to the PC with a USB cable is much easier for me; when I've had a day out I download the contents of the card to the PC, copy to the network drive to ensure there is a backup, then re-format the card in camera.
