What will the new Pentax really offer us?

Voted for AF myself, but not for sports or tracking. I just want absolute accuracy with my FA Limiteds wide open at the centre and not having doubts like I do now. Contrast peaking will be useful as well with my A50 f/1.2 and CZ 2/50 Makro-Planar.
yes that's something that's interesting me

Just wondering How accurate is the peaking can anyone with a K-01 or a K30 chime in?

Pleased about the Sensor being confirmed as a Sony and not the Toshiba
5105 probably an updated derivative of the Sony IMX096AQL found in the A77, and probably destined for the Nex6 or 7 update. It'll be one year more advanced than the current Toshiba, so there is a bit of hope to steal a march on caNikon at least for short time. That will of course be dependant on how much of a threat Nikon in particular sees the K3, My personal view will be not at all, as they seem to have their eyes firmly fixed on Canon at all times. Everyone is grabbing market share off them at the moment, like stealing from a baby! The K3 seems to be causing a bit of a fuss over in Nikon DX land. If Canon jumps so will Nikon, then it will get interesting but for a little bit maybe just maybe Pentax could claim to be the king of the APSC DSLR???
I have high hopes for the K3, one of which is that all the claims made by Ricoh ain't just hot air!
Cheers Jules...

I have neither but if it works from image info from the main sensor then you're not going to get any more accurate.

K-30 focus peaking is spot on. The highlight overlay is directly from the lens and is practically real time, so there's no weird lagging or anything when you use it. I think it's awesome, and would love it to be enabled if desired during Video recording, rather than just before you start recording.

Ta! For the info Smeggy and Rich. I had peaking on my Sony A77 it was one of the things I liked about it but little else, A technological marvel for sure but less than the sum of it's parts. Peaking intrigues for it's uses with fastish glass and in low light, might be worth investing in a couple of old manual primes on the cheap just for kicks...
Some arn't that cheap though are they?
Cheers Jules...

If you've used Sony focus peaking, Pentax's implementation will be slightly disappointing. No colour to make it stand out, and a pixellated / grainy zoomed view. Unless Ricoh have radically improved it on the K3 (Let's hope! )

I've never used Sony's implementation Will, so I can't compare, but I do find the focus peaking on the K-01 fantastic with the old MF lenses. It has transformed my use of the old glass and I almost always reserve these lenses for the K-01. If the peaking on the K-3 is as good or better than the K-01 it's definitely a feature worth having.

The extra grunt of the new imaging processer in the k3 might allow a better implementation. Not sure why Sony have been able to do it so much better in their puny NEX cameras but hey!

On the K-01 it is superbly useful, a joy to use and I think the most accurate method as well - particularly when combined with the zoomed in view. Having quite a few old manual lenses I now wouldn't even consider anything without this feature when I finally upgrade my K7.

Do you get the idea that I like this feature?

What you need are lenses, more lenses, bigger lenses, better lenses, faster lenses, vintage lenses and when you have these, your pictures will be perfect!

To what end Jules.

Joe blogs won't even ask what brand the imaging sensor is and just as well as the sales person probably won't know or even care.

Most camera owners out there are not passionate about photography just as the majority of people who listened to music at home were not HiFi buffs.

Wow & flutter may as well have been a dance move, THD was probably an offshoot of LSD and RMS was possibly a ship.

Best regards

True, but it's nice to be at least optimistic that the K-3 sensor won't suffer from the long-exposure banding that the D7100 is alleged to.

I haven't researched it to any depth, but it's not hard to find people that think that it's worse than the D7000 in this respect.
