Venice in Monochrome - Part 2

Part 2 of the trip to Italy in 2018 - Hope you enjoy some of them.

I think our photography can change and evolve, I find myself questioning my self imposed rules and "standards" more and more - and one of the main reason I re-visited these (and the first set) is because on my first pass through I was disappointed in the sharpness of some (not lens/sensor related - but slow shutter speed) - reading about one of the greatest rock'n'roll album covers a few weeks ago made me re-assess how I see some images (and encouraged me to buy a Pentax ESII)

What's not to enjoy. Is there a Part 3?

Very 'streety', love them...

All I know that in No.3 they are quite a long walk from San Marco, when there are signs for the Railway station and Ca Rezzonico you've got to cross the Grand Canal to get back to the Piazza....

I just love Venice.

Another lovely set, and I look forward to part 3. Nos. 1, 3, 4, 6 & 7 are my personal picks of this group, with nos. 3 & 6 capturing the feel of 'back street' Venice.

You start us of with a cracker and follow it with another very enjoyable set. In No.8 I like the fact that the walking lady is less blurred than all and everyone that is static, quirkly enjoyable that one, glad you included it.

Another good set - thanks again LB. I enjoy all but number 3 which is my least favourite (which might have something to do with the very bright sky at the top and the chopped off figures at the bottom).

A nice set. I too was in Venice in 2018, in January. As we were lucky with the weather it was the ideal time to go - not too many people, especially in Venice, which is well known for the huge numbers of tourists it attracts.

Obviously a popular destination - I was there in September 2018.

I found the best times for photography were first thing in the morning and after about 7 in the evening - i.e. before and after the cruise ship passengers invade the place.

Hoping to pay another visit at a different time of the year.

Two excellent sets, John, full of interesting perspectives and subjects. Great stuff!

Great follow-up to the first series, Lennybloke. In both sets, I particularly like the less touristy images (not that there's anything wrong with those), they feel more photographically authentic in a way, less constrained by the 'obligation' to find an interesting point of view. I especially like the last of this set.

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to view and comment on this second set - good to see so many of you have visited, it's truly a wonderful city - I highly recommend a visit (when things get back to normal), but don't forget your camera - you'll be kicking yourself if you don't take one

I do have a fair few more images from that trip so I'll go through them and see if they are worth posting - but if it looks like I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel I might just leave it at the 2 sets.

Very nice again John... love the movement in the first one, the observation in 3, and the lens flare of 6...

Best

Love all of these, but the standout is the first. The movement makes the image.

Another beautifully judged portfolio of photographic pleasure that reinstates the glories of Venice in the mind's eye of even the most well-travelled and jaded of travellers
