Sanyo make a lot of stuff for Pentax so I wouldn't be surprised if they make the batteries.Frogherder wrote:

Of course pentax knows where they come from ( or should do ), but the same manufacturers will make for other suppliers, perhaps even those with no brand name on them.Quote:
Does anyone know who makes Pentax branded batteries?
Jo public almost certainly doesn't but there will be a paper trail held by Pentax, probably right down to the manufacturer of the dies that moulded the plastic.Does anyone know who makes Pentax branded batteries?

Sanyo are usually top quality, but they don't do cheap stuff,
they even do two versions of Eneloops both of which are dearer
than most competitors.

At the other end, there were those that wanted the very best and they bought the recognised brand leaders. They may well have wanted these items at the best possible price, but the price itself was not the main objective. Reliability, quality, confidence and the pleasure of using the best was more to the point.
Now these higher priced products were most definitely not the same as the own brand ranges. They performed better and gave a higher degree of satisfaction to those who could tell the difference.
The point I'm making is that we can make no assumptions,
We've been through the Pentax labelled battery versus 3rd party batteries at as low as 1/10th of the price issue many times and there's many, many people including myself that have testified that they can find no discernible difference in performance.
Similarly with SD cards. I use a branded SD card, btu I don't buy the most expensive Kingston, etc brands becuase there is no evidence they perform any better.
And the brand issue is also well known in the food industry. McDonalds is a leading brand, btu the food is, well on the boundary of even beign called food. Or Bird's Eye/heinz comapred to Tesco brands. Often the 'leading brand' tastes worse.
Personally it's about value for money for me, rather than cost. I'm happy to pay more for more value.
Integral Ultimata Pro SD cards are better value than Kingston cards, and 3rd party camera batteries are much much better value than Pentax batteries.
