Thinking about this, I reckon that in the 70s and 80s British television produced better "moving pictures" than just about anything on these lists. I've already mentioned Smiley's People and Brideshead, but you can also add Jewell in the Crown, The Singing Detective, and a number of similar series.
An unfair comparison in some ways, because a series has more time to develop plot and character, but except for the fact that none of the ones I mentioned contained SL or AH, they are otherwise vastly more satisfying in my view than the Hollywood stuff.
But chaque a son gout.

oggy oggy oggy - we are just back from the Odeon - I have to say that Edge of Darkness is a very very good film - we thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and the action.

Sadly no - and I`m a Troy Kennedy-Martin fan and a Bob Peck fan - but in those days (1985)work was everything and I could never work the video recorder !! I will try to get it on CdWoW if you say it`s that good.

Tuntematon Sotilas, The Unknown Soldier (1955 version) (perhaps the best finnish movie! Seen it at least a dozen times and it still is great to watch. Great characters, Rokka is the man!! Also really funny scene where everybody is drunk. Available as book also.)

Ha ha, most Finnish movies I have seen people seem to be drunk or have hangovers most of the time Finnish humour is quite unique, though. Haven't seen that one. In no particular order:

It's interesting to see such a variety to the lists. Many I have never seen or heard of.
As for worst movie ... nobody that have seen Plan 9 from outer space? It's so bad it will give you a headache.
