Seems to be OK on Leica, Fuji etc.

Everyone has to make their own choices based on what they want from a system.

As I mentioned to someone else on this forum very recently, lots of fun can still be had using old K and M42 mount lenses (or virtually any mount really) on a mirrorless camera.

yep... I'm taking all my old pentax MF primes and "declicking" the apertures for use with a sony a7 and Zhiyun crane 2 gimbal for filmmaking. the gimbal has a focus puller built in...

Probably only got one of them bendy leg mini-tripods

The focus breathing in this bit is the worst I've ever seen and Richard keeps asking for video AF to be included in Pentax cameras ...

Any photographer is free to use whatever marque they want to, it's their money. No doubt a fair few come back again having found that the grass isn't greener elsewhere.

There are some things that Pentax cameras do brilliantly well and some things that other makes do brilliantly well. It can be quite interesting sometimes to see photographers struggling to take shots that are a breeze with our Pentaxes, and this will work the other way round as well.

It's an endless argument without any possible resolution. Just like a Battle of the Formats, for example.
Best regards, John

A few years ago I purchased an adapter to use my old K Mount lenses on my 7D but didn't really use it as it was a right pain. Yesterday I attached it to the EOS-EF-M adapter so that I could mount K lenses on my Canon M5. Have to say the results were very good, so much so I have ordered a KA-EF-M adapter with an aperture ring so I can try my DA* lenses.

Canon M5 with Pentax F 135mm f/2.8 (wide open) ,,, sorry JR, wont happen again
I actually prefer it on the Canon to the K-1.

Just had my first full day out with the "New" camera and lens. Can't believe how light it is and for the photography I do am sure its going to fulfill my photographic needs. I'm still keeping my Pentax gear as I won't be carrying it far and have a fixed use for the K-70. Will remain a member of this Forum as I still have archive material I can use for competitions etc.
Regards
Stan

Hi Steve,

I hope that your new camera brings to you what you are looking for. If it helps you achieve what you are trying to do, excellent stuff, go for it. It is sad to see another person leave, but it happens. All the best, and I am pleased for you.

Like you, I am excited about mirrorless cameras. I think what a few people are missing on this thread is that some people want what mirrorless can bring to you. Am I going to buy a Pentax FF mirrorless? If it comes out in the next year or so, maybe yes. If it is K mount, no thanks. If it comes out with a bigger mount diameter, and a handful of nice lenses, you now have my interest. But, I am not going to hold my breath on that one.

I think what we also have to consider here is what is Pentax's stance to all this ? Wether we like it or not ( I don't) video is starting to be an equal part the market. Not only DSLR but drones. Bloggers and youtubers are getting plentyful. The Pentax reaction to this on their latest flagship K1 II is a pretty non descript video offering. As if to say well its here if you must !

Mirrorless is becoming a predominent player. With new offerings from Sony Canon and Nikon.. Pentax nothing,, as yet !! Or is the KP an acceptable alternative ?

Pentax seem to want to concentrate on photography only. Nothing wrong with that. Then why not improve the standard of their photographic cameras. To the best in the marketplace. Bring the auto focus speed up to a more acceptable level for instance. Recently we have seen the introduction of more full frame high quality lenses. Great.!! But not before time. Lets face it the K1 has really only survived by the back up of old lenses in their back catalouge. Something which Pentax originally claimed shouldn't be used. Because the introduction of new offerings was far too slow.
A flash system that stands on its own. And very much alone in the marketplace.
With what is seemingly the loss to Pentax of the larger third party manufacturers. Its difficult to see how they attract new customers, younger customers to their market.
This is starting to sound like a rant.. It isnt.. Maybe just stating the obvious. I have used Pentax cameras for many years. Infact Ive never used anything else. I personally have no need to move away. But is it not time for Pentax to come out and make their position clearer.
Next year, will be a big anniversary year for Pentax. With hopefully big things on the horizon. The K3II needs an upgrade. The K1 still needs more lenses. Is the KP an alternative to mirrorless ? Or is a new offering in this market planned. Are they going to play the video game ? So lots of questions still to be answered.

I don't think video is the be-all-and-end-all, video bloggers are becoming much more technical in their video production. One I saw recently had five cameras on the go, these weren't high-end mirrorless but the minimal that could deliver 1080p HD content. Drones will increasingly become the defacto production tools - replacing selphie sticks and multiple tripod mounted cameras. I can't see Pentax being able to compete in these markets (neither will high-end, FF mirrorless cameras - the costs would be too high).

Everybody seems to want superb video, but how are they using it? Video blogging is one application, but what are the others, home movies? I'm genuinely interested in those from this forum who have moved away for better video - what are you doing with it?

The 645Z was the first medium format camera ever to do video - but the nay sayers reported it as the usual mediocre Pentax video offering - some people are never satisfied.

Pentax can't influence third party manufacturers and nor should they. How could they justify spending the R&D on new lenses if half their market is swallowed up by independents at cheaper prices?

I think a lot of people on here are confusing Pentax which is a CAMERA with a CAMERA SHOP

If you want bits of Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fuji etc you look for them in a CAMERA SHOP NOT IN A CAMERA CALLED PENTAX!
