Site very slow, just me?

(Sorry if this is the wrong place, but I couldn't see a more obvious section of the forum to post. The 'announcements' board is the only one that mentions site issues, but I can't start a topic in there. Mods feel free to move this somewhere if appropriate.)

Is anyone else having problems with performance on this site? Specifically when it first opens up, while it's trying to download all the animated adverts that appear on top and to the side, it goes completely non-responsive. OK, I'm on a mobile broadband connection, but other sites don't seem to have the same issue, in that although they might take their time download graphic-heavy stuff, they don't lock up completely while doing so. I can't scroll down on the forum home page, sometimes for nearly a minute. It's a reasonably new PC with Win7 and IE11, I just wondered if it's only me.

Sometimes I just have to give up and try again later on. This morning (and yesterday) it was quite bad, this morning it started out badly but has got quicker as I moved from the main forum list, into 'announcements', out of there and into here.

So, anyone else see this?

HI MIke,

We aren't aware of any performance issues with the site, so it might be something to do with your setup. If you would like to create a support ticket we can investigate the problems further and hopefully find a solution:

OK, I've just done that. It does come and go - opening this just now to post this response was a few seconds, nothing out of the ordinary, but opening it to read your response involved a wait and a few seconds of IE saying "Not responding".

Yep, I have the same experience - the main site appears to load okay, but it's not properly responsive until all the cr*p at the top and round the sides loads

I thought it was just me, or my computer losing the plot. However it seems others are experiencing the same problems. I find it slow to load, slow to navigate, clumsy to go from one section to another. And if I stay on too long my computer just crashes.
I have broadband, a modern computer and don't experience these delays when visiting other sites. This is one reason why I have been reluctant to spend very much time going through the Gallery to comment on submissions of late.

Definately something wrong as the site is displaying random pictures in random fields on the page; usually current advert or gallety images simultaneously and often replicated several times.

Thats a bug with iOS8. They are yet to fix it. You can find more information about it in the Apple discussion forums. Currently, the only way to stop it from happening is the disable a feature which will make the site incredibly slow.

Ditto, Ditto (thought it was only me too!) on both my home PC (AMD A8, W7 Ultimate, Gigabit LAN & 50Mbs fibre) and my portable netbook sort of thing (slow AMD 2-core W7 machine, but very small and with a long battery life!) via 3G - but my old single core Android 4.2 tablet with Gifgaff 3G (over O2) is quicker because it does not load all the "cr*p" !!!!

OK, not just me then. Maybe the ad supplier is the issue.

And yet now it's fine. It's almost as if it knows we've noticed....

From time to time we seem to go through a slow patch and I suspect it's to do with the loading of the ads.
Best regards, John

Ha! Been on the AP site recently?
They insist on eBay ads on every page. And eBay has been sloooow recently.
Guess the effect on the AP site.
SteveH!

Some people call me 'strange'.
I prefer 'unconventional'.
But I'm willing to compromise and accept 'eccentric'.
