Site very slow, just me?

Why change to Chrome just for one website? Change for them all, we can import all our IE favourites into Chrome and it works faster. I used to use IE all the time, but it's too "sticky" on ads loading for some sites.
Firefox works as well, but I tend to come back to Chrome because of its speed advantage.

I think the message is "there is no problem with the pentaxuser site, the problem is the way you access it!" - the company I work for tests browser compatibility and the overall results are expected to be similar for each of the popular browser types tested

I don't recall anybody saying that LennyBloke, but we're all trying to make suggestions as to how to minimise the problem now. I'm sure IT are constantly looking at speed, they work full time on the sites.
From what I can see, the problem seems to lie with some adverts not loading and causing everything to hang, so I wonder if those of us who use AdBlocker have the same speed problem?

Why, then, have we heard nothing from the PU IT team since davidburleson's posts on the 8th of May - that's two weeks ago! Sounds like they are making very slow progress on this issue.

I have AdBlock intalled on my old (underpowered) netbook and haven't experienced any of these problems.

I do know that some members have provided more specific information to IT in a report, and those issues have been resolved. Just now, the site seems back to speed, for me anyway.
If you want a specific answer then make a report, but IT will need full details of what circumstances cause slow response and what times, etc. I would imagine it's hard to solve a vague slowness report when it's possible to log on and everything is fine, like now.

Hmmn, I think some are mis-understanding the intent of what I said.
I'm not trying to suggest that everyone should move from IE11 to Google Chrome, not at all. I was stating an undisputable fact, that Chrome's JavaScript engine is massively superior to IE11's JavaScript engine and that if anyone is struggling to view the site using IE, trying Chrome could be worth a go. I have no axes to grind with Microsoft, Google, Apple or anyone else and I couldn't give two hoots about which browser I or anyone else chooses to use.
BTW, I use IE11 myself, not Chrome for most browsing.
I understand that everyone wants to choose and that web developers should account for performance in different Browsers, but you can't turn a Sow's ear into a silk purse and unfortunately Internet Explorer in whatever incarnation is a pig's ear as far as JavaScript is concerned.
Don't shoot the messenger!
Cheers

Thanks David, but there are a lot of people out there that still use IE 11 (or another version) and don't wish to migrate to Chrome, and might find this a bit of the old 'kettle/black/pot' after the 'Microsoft competition lawsuits of last the decade? I don't wish to change browser just for one website and suspect neither do many other people. I like to have the choice the same as we choose to buy Pentax gear.

Dave

Update: installed Adblock Plus on both the main laptop and the netbook, and that does seem to have pretty much solved the loading time issue - but I still don't think that this should have been necessary

I really do have to disagree with the words "ESSENTIAL on every site" because I am already having a problem with another very big forum ("AV Forums") where I have to disable Adblock in order to post - and that forum is NOT slow to load without Adblock!!!!!!

No one who is Internetwise uses IE anymore. It's absolute rubbish and has never properly supported HTML.

Couldn't agree more. Adverts are utter brainrot and the ability to block them for those of us who don't want them is indeed essential Adblock Plus is pure heaven.

- Until, as I said above, it effectively stops you posting on a website - at the moment I am having to switch it ON and OFF many times a day for that reason
