Hmm, an unknown item of unspecified function is arriving at an unknown future time.

Well, forewarned is forearmed.

I love this stuff...

you never know...... I was reading up, the guy has nailed a few rumors in the past...

but the comments got me thinking....

high power grip with wi-fi/gps active memory card slot...? (seems likely since even my k10 has a LOT of contact pins in the grip where only three are actually needed)

af teleconverter to restore old lenses to their original fov...?

dedicated video lens with pull focus gearing?

But why would suggestions two and three be limited to the K5 and K7?

And why would the first mean that DSLR's would never be the same again? A grip is specific to those two models but is it revolutionary. As many shoot RAW, would wi-fi be that useful? And GPS. I wouldn't get particularly excited by that, I roughly know where I am most of the time.

I'm thinking it would be something released for but not made by pentax... hence released for the k's first then other brands?

Pentax dropped tethering, so a hardware/software wireless tethering solution perhaps also compatible with ipad is in the works...

The post also mentioned manufacturing so it is hardware what ever it is... a grip seems plausible.... may also require a firmware update...

if Pentax releases a grip that can stream wireless video that would be a game changer for Wedding and event shooters!

GPS or tethering would be cool BUT I would be pretty p*** off if it would be something I can not get in an upgrade.
Spending £1500 only to see that an improved model is out and I can not get my one upgraded even it is only three month old would not get Pentax any friends I guess.
And what is this that Pentax would be the first?
The first hint is that it is in the manufacturing process, but that would mean in principle a new camera.
K-5 v1.01 anyone?
Kind regards

It's nice to be nice!

Pentax K-5 with D-GB4 Grip, to many lenses to mention by now (serious LBA by now), TC's, Lowepro Slingshot 300 AW, Manfrotto 028 & Redsnapper RS-283 with various Heads plus various Camera Clamps (I collect them). Pentax AF 360FGZ, Pentax AF 240FT, several Metz 45 CT-1 & 5 with stands and 'Blow Up' Soft Boxes, Flash Triggers, and various Macro gear.

But why would that work with the K5 and K7 but not the Kr?

I agree it seems plausible but "DSLRs will never be the same again". Is the clue in the photo? - the around the corner bit, I can't make out what the blurry logo is.

They suggested k5 and k7 compatibility, which is why I'm leaning towards the grip... what else is there that would be a Pentax first, that is specific to these two models? They share a battery and a grip... that is it. really...

The hint of 'manufacturing process' rattles me. I sincerely believe that software/firmware is part of this.
But what would it be that others do not have?
Kind regards

I can see Wifi being extremely useful to people shooting RAW - just leave your laptop running in a corner and have the camera dump images to it while idle, freeing space on the SD card.

Since it's reputedly for K7 and K5 perhaps something to do with its wired remote ? After all neither the K-x nor the K-r have that.
