Sorry, but Pentax is and should never be responsible for 3rd party lenses and accessory compatibility unless its a combined effort.
Happy to report both my Sigma lenses, original EX APO 70-200 f2.8 (screw drive) and 8-16 both appear to work fine, have not yet tested my Metz 58 AF-2.
Pretty sure both these companies will offer a firmware update, just a case of when.

It's my understanding that Sigma reverse-engineer the Pentax interfaces rather than license them from Pentax.
If that is true, it is Sigma, not Pentax, that needs to get their finger out. I think that Sigma have, in the past, brought out fixes in similar situations.

Yes, I see your point. Perhaps i'm being hard on them a little.
They work fine on my K-3 though. So i'd hope the matter can be resolved.

Got my K1 yesterday. Its already got to go back because the mode selection dial doesn't work properly. Can't select AV and SV and other labels seem to select other things, Auto selects manual etc. I have a problem with my Sigma 70-200 HSM II as well, won't autofocus and turns the screen display off. It's up to pentax to do some testing on other current third lenses to see if they work. Interestingly my Sigma 35mm 1.4 does seem to work ok These are fairly basic things to get right and doesn't bode well for the quality control. Plus there's other issues such as the jump in price for the DA* 300mm which I'm not happy about.

There have been problems with Sigma lenses and both new Nikon and Canon bodies lately so Pentax is no exception. As stated earlier in the thread it's down to Sigma to fix the problem which they can normally sort out by fitting a new chip). Cost depends on if you are the original owner, free if you are but if not then I believe it's around the £50 mark.

Pentax are under no obligation to make sure third party lenses work, those manufacturers pay no licence fee for using the mount and are basically taking sales away from Pentax.

Yep, my 150-500 works like a charm (as does the Sigma 12-24). Just the 70-200 that's playing up.

As Pentax don't do a full frame 12-24mm, 50-500mm, 150-500mm or 8-16mm but have just released a 70-200mm f2.8 maybe they decided to target Sigma's HSM as it's in direct competition.
The 24-70mm and Tamron 70-200mm don't come into it as they are screw drive anyway.

Touch wood, all seems OK so far with mine, some 'scares' turned out to be silly mistakes with me and settings.
Remember you can remove battery, clean contacts on camera and lenses, reset camera to factory settings etc. before sending the cameras back... I have in the past had issues caused by muck/oxidation on battery contacts, lens/mount contacts, and accidental changes to settings while messing around in Menus!!
Works fine with my Sigma 24-70 EX DG HSM, I may well keep this £300 (used) lens instead of buying a Pentax 24-70mm at £1,149!!
Sympathy to those with faulty models or incompatibility issues!!

That`s a valid point!
I have had lenses that stopped working on my K3 but worked perfectly on my K5II, The problem was indeed simply that the contacts needed a clean. I used Isopropyl alcohol.
So well done for posting this!

I have just tried my Sigma 70-200 APO EX DG HSM (most recent version I think) on my K1 and it works fine. My mode dial is working as it should. My main concern so far is that the output looks bland compared to my K5II. Taking the same scene on identical settings the K5II outputs typical rich 'Pentax colours' , the K1 gives a more muted result more reminiscent of canon. This may partly be because it seems to give about a half stop extra exposure than the K5II, producing a perfect histogram but a rather flat result for my taste. I will have to tweak the settings to get it to my taste. My other observation is that crop mode is a little smaller than it should be but I was testing using the 16-85 zoom so I may have inadvertently nudged it while changing bodies. I will try again using a prime when I get chance.
Regards, Philip

One big issue for me - my Sigma 70-200 HSM II doesn't AF at all and crashes/locks up the camera. Cannot use the shutter at all, even on MF. I have to remove the battery to reset the camera.
Very disappointed with this. A firmware issue? Can't afford the D-FA 70-200 right now. If Pentax don't sort this issue out quickly I may have to buy a Tamron.
A report on the US forum of Metz 44 Af-1 flashgun not working in P-TTL.
Just checked and my Metz 58 AF-2 (firmware v 4.1) only flashes once in P-TTL then ceases to fire. P-TTL HSS, Auto and Manual all seem fine.
I suppose this is what you get for being an early adopter.
Pentax - get yer finger out!
