I can't see why anyone would change system for the D7000, especially considering the K5 will be (regardless of hype either way) pretty-much exactly the same. There's a better upgrade path in particular with longer fast lenses and faster AF, you just have to get on the ladder and start building a new system. It's not about to happen in the next couple of months, I'll be waiting to see how things turn out with regard to the K5, the Canon 7D is of interest tooI can't see why anyone would change system for the D7000, especially considering the K5 will be (regardless of hype either way) pretty-much exactly the same. pentax has to focus more on the af system and get it right its still to slow compared to all the other dslr brands,
pentax has the build quality and everything else pritty much spot on so they just need to adjust the af to be much faster, maybe not worry about more af points for now, but in the future would be nice.

I have a theory.
I think that real Pentax users (not those who are always nervously eyeing the specs of the latest models from rival brands, and fretting whether the next-door neighbour has a better car, prettier wife, or whatever) tend to be happier, more relaxed, and yes, more mature, people.
They know a different camera won't make them a better photographer, and they know it's always a catch-up game anyway, so while Nikon may be better today, Canon will be tomorrow, and Pentax on Thursday.
And they know that advertising doesn't make a camera better, though it might help to sell barrels of plasticky stuff to the uninformed masses.
It's this maturity, in part, that makes this forum a nicer place than the grim, smoky, knife-in-the-back, dens frequented by stressed-out Canikonyians.
And it's why the brand-hoppers can't stay away. They keep coming back, shame-faced, with huge, pleading eyes, like lost and hungry dogs. Take me in, they beg. Give me a space by the warm Pentax hearth, and cast the odd crust in my undeserving direction.
Fair tugs at the old heart-strings, it does.
Sniff.

Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Indeed, and if you're not always nervously eyeing blah, blah, then my comments don't apply to you. : I just want a camera that definitely works as expected at all shutter speeds, George!

Hmmm... if we didn't think about the other brands and lived in Pentax bubble-land, and denied the existence of any shortcomings, who knows, Pentax's top model might still be a 6MP jobby without shake reduction, 3 fps, chronically slow AF. Yes, it would still take great pictures, of course though George....

It's getting the balance right that is important. Many people would take better pictures if they actually TOOK some pictures instead of obsessing over the competition.
My earlier comment wasn't directed at you. It was inspired by the spate of grass-is-greener posts recently. They are so tedious.

You don't abandon your family Mike, or else you become a recluse, even if that means sacrificing some aspects of photography
It seems they just don't have such close communities in Canonland.
