Hi everyone, had the chance of a very cheap canon 350d from my husbands uncle yesterday so thought I would give it a chance, say a bit of money and all that, have to say, wasn't for me, did not like it at all. will be sticking to pentax. the one I used to have just felt right and did everything the way I expected.

Oh I haven't yet. I have just decided pentax is definately for me Plus I would miss this forum I received a cheque we had been waiting for, for ages, but it wasn't as much as we were hoping for so funds are still pretty limited. I have seen a very cheap pentax ist ds with 6 months warranty, any advice? don't know much about them? thanks.

How much is it? 6 months warranty on it sounds good.

The Ds is a great little camera, though "old" in digital terms of course, with 6MP and a Pentaprism viewfinder.
It was my first digital Pentax and I loved it. great picture quality and it did all I asked of it. I preferred it to my K20D which is why that has been shown the door. Sadly my Ds is now RIP but it is a great little camera.

Glad you've decided to stick with Pentax

I expect there will quite a few cheapish Pentaxes soon, with the new models arriving next month.

Hang on to your money a while longer and don't go for the first thing you see, tempting though it is.

I'm thoroughly pleased with my K20D, but they still seem to sell for £4-500+ and I guess you are looking for something less expensive. I know people who use the K100D and K200D and don't have any plans to change in the near future - the K200D owner uses his semi-professionally.

Jacqui - good luck with you patience - the K100D is a little cracker as my wife ( also a little cracker ) will attest - I got hers - body only - earlier this year for £142 with less than 2000 shutter actuations ,strap, manual,cd,body cover and box!
The *istD is now used only for M42 screw lenses but still a wonderful piece of kit and probably a classic of tomorrow.

I had an *istDL2... it was OK, but I would hold out for a K100d or istDS unless its a bargain, i.e. less than 100 squids. The other two offer shake reduction (K100d) or pentaprism viewfinder (istDS or istD).

Damn, you missed out on a K10d for sale at 120.00 in the classified the other day! (Not to rub it in lol)

K10D for 120 sterling is some kind of bargain.

Definitely hold out for something with SR. The K100D Super is a good starting point.

thanks for your advice guys. I am getting a bit impatient, not much about, want to get out there and take photos. gong to see that ist dl tomorrow, I know it's not ideal but really getting too impatient
(patience is not my strong point) I'm thinking it might do me for a while and then I can always upgrade to something better. anyway we will see
