LOL it let me change my password but wont let me log on. Looks like I have to re-register with a NEW email. WTF is that for if they already KNOW my email address. And the password reset email went into the Junk/Spam box. They aren't making life easier though.

You might want to take notice of this in their terms and conditions (acceptance required). I won't be giving them ownership of my images.I see Ricoh UK have opened a new gallery for Pentax Users. Subject to stipulations to the contrary, all items in the Website, in particular, text, brands, company names, logos, products, domain names, presentations, graphics, illustrations, photographs, videos, structures and layout are the exclusive property of PENTAX RICOH or of its partners.
I didn't see any 'stipulations to the contrary'.
How to shoot yourself in the foot with a new photo gallery!!

Sorry, reading through this thread again. Joining any forum can be daunting. It is so much easier to express opinion on the internet than it is face to face. New members are new blood and should be encouraged!

Marat. I agree- I joined a social photography group recently in my town. I was very nervous at the first meet but really enjoyed it. I missed several months following a knee operation and returned to a meet where the first thing I was told was that I had broken a posting rule on the group's site! I walked away and have not returned. Sadly, being a photographer does not make you a sociable person... But hang in. I love this site very much and respect the often great opinion and experience that lies therein.

It does show that this site has had it's day, ruined by a few bullies with a do as I say not what I do attitude, which is fine if thats how it's been agreed how you are going to run it.
But the three mods, John, ken and Nigel do need to look in the mirror and ask themselves, do we talk to people and act in this manner in the real world or just when we are hiding behind a compter screen.
After seven days at being a member on here i think I can answer a big yes, the grass is very much greener. And I for one will Not be returning and informing as many as I can not to make the same mistake i have.

I wouldn't put a single image on the mypentax.ricoh site under the terms of their conditions, Basically you are giving them your images for free:
"The user agrees to transfer to RICOH IMAGING EUROPE and any company of the RICOH group the reproduction and exploitation rights for the content that it publishes online, worldwide and for the duration of the copyright protection, including in particular the right to publish this photograph in full or in part on any of the websites of RICOH IMAGING EUROPE and the websites of the RICOH group. He/she warrants to RICOH IMAGING EUROPE that he/she holds all intellectual property rights to this photograph and that this photograph does not infringe on any rights of a third party.
For technical reasons, the user acknowledges that his/her name or pseudonym shall not appear or is not likely to appear on the photograph."
As you are transferring all rights to Ricoh, you could also find yourself in the bizarre situation of being sued by them for selling your images elsewhere.

Sounds a pretty bad deal to me. It looks like its all one way (Rico's).
Why would anybody put any images on to this side?
The crap with the "technical reason" tops it.
Sounds like Ned Kelly moved to Japan.

As an aside, is anyone still uploading snaps to and voting on PPG ?
No, Having had 18 of the 19 photos I submitted accepted, it's clear to me that there is something wrong. As Marx said (Groucho), 'I don't care to belong to any club that will have me as a member'.

How I missed all this I don't know! Probably don't look into General Photographic as much as specifics. I have to say I've been pretty happy with what the Forum has done for me since I joined a few years ago. I've never really been "moderated" other than maybe posting in the wrong place once (and I was rather firmly told off )but I was shocked to read this because I didn't even know all this "heavy" stuff was going on. The problem is these things can never be all things to all people. That's why a broad and mutual tolerance is required or things deteriorate, which I am told they are apparently, although I was oblivious to it. I belong to another Newsgroup which is completely unmoderated. If you are thick skinned it is wonderful because anything goes and you can ignore or killfile people you don't like. The problem is that a few dominant members argue with each other, bring in politics, insult each other and then others can't help themselves from taking one side or another. Frankly that ruins it so you do need this moderation. I think it could be slightly more laissez faire - like if you mention Nikon has a particular feature or something but I agree that it should be, and threads should be , about Pentax. That's why I joined it. I can join plenty of others like Dpreview etc. if I want multi-faceted discussions. So I will stay here if it continues pretty much as before especially if it takes on board some of the sensible points made by the likes of David Storm and Alan.

Some folks here went and created their own forum. There are now at least 5 English speaking Pentax forums on the net that I know of. Probably 3 more than we need. I'm happy with this one, I mainly post in the Gallery and have no interest in other makes.

I am a Pentax user and nothing else, don't own any other branded camera, sad but true, so a site that deals in just Pentax is just fine by me.
But nothing's happening on here, at all, I was a visitor a good six months before I was a member and everyday I visited there was always something new and different and interesting conversations, now I know I have been told I have joined at the wrong time, but for other members to go and set up a new forum something major must have happened for it to go wrong, so badly and so fast.
So here and now we have members from this site split all across the web and surely there can only be one winner as I know I can't split myself like that, I haven't the time or energy and what I can make of it, is this site is still great for the classifieds and that's about it, The Pentax team did say they have new and different ideas they are going to implement to get this site back on track again? But what? It's gone rather silent on their part.
I will still log on everyday with hope that something happens for the good of this site, but at the moment like with anything in the modern market place there is better alternatives out there.
