We all have to stop talking about "SIDES" we are all pentaxians at heart.
PU is like your favorite team, you may go and watch the local rivals now and again when your team is playing crap but you always come back to your team when things get better as I'm sure they will.
If after this round a negativity there is no change here then I think this site will go the way of Third Lanark (and yes I can just remember them).

Went to Holy Island this morning. Rain all the way there and everywhere I wanted to stop except Bamburgh, rain eased of enough for a couple of pics, and the site of my prize winning photo only to find the roof has gone the building boarded up and the armchair dumped outside. Still got a last souvenir image of the chair so not a total disaster

RussV, you asked about contractual obligations.
You'll find the answers in the Terms of Use (see bottom of page) which tells us that PU is an independent company with no ties to Pentax.
PU sprang from Pentax User Club and was the website provided to enhance membership of the club. Sadly the printed club magazine is no longer with us, but the site does provide a place for Pentax Users to get help and advice.
The Terms of Use define what the site is about in more detail.

I did say that I was going to hold off from posting for a while but John's last post has just helped to re-enforce the point that so many users have alluded to many many times.
Quote from the Terms of use:
"All content is ©2001-2008 Magezine Publishing. This disclaimer was last updated on 17/11/2011"
The copyright statement is 6 years out of date and the Terms have not been updated since 2011! That seems to reenforce the opinion of many that this site receives little support from its 'owners' and has not moved with the times.
The whole site needs to be revamped and brought up to date. Clean out the old stuff such as the 'team' page, the out of date shop, the 'special offers' that aren't special, etc. etc.
These aren't radical changes, they are just basic housekeeping.
It is interesting to note that the terms of use do not seem to identify a strict criteria for what you can and cannot post. In fact they are extremely light when it comes to stating actual 'terms'.
I still have a very bad taste in my mouth about bannings and post deletions but shall continue to wait, in hope that this site will modernise, take on board the many suggestions that have been made (civilly), in this and other threads and get back to being a nice place to visit.

As the site is not officially connected to Pentax and the magazine is defunct why the ban, and it is a ban, on mentioning other brands never mind comparing and contrasting?

One of the universes great mysteries. Just out of curiosity, is permission needed to use the Pentax logo/typeface?

Almost certainly - but I don't know if PU have permission. One of the universes great mysteries. Just out of curiosity, is permission needed to use the Pentax logo/typeface?
That said, it would be pretty churlish of any brand owner to come over all precious about the use of a logo or mark in a situation like this, where everyone either has or is thinking of buying their products. I could see that changing if
i. The content became detrimental to the brand
ii. There was a swing towards competitors getting undue prominence
iii. Someone was seen to be making a profit from the use or implied association
iv. There was a change in "policy" at the brand owner.
I'm sure Pentax (Richo) know it's there but have turned a blind eye, given the relationship it has with it's fanbase.

I see Ricoh UK have opened a new gallery for Pentax Users. I'm pretty sure they used to link to this site under their Community links. Perhaps they could be asked for a statement about Pentax User and its value to them?

Having been away in Greece late May and then Wales last week (I know OK for some)I've too come back to the Forum wondering if I really want to read through all this.
Personally I'm trying to spend more of my time taking photos than reading about it all.
My personal thanks to John and the other moderators for running all this for us and the publisher for kindly hosting it still after the magazine sadly closed.
I've tried the EU Forum purely out of interest, it seems a little quiet and undeveloped. This UK one does most of what I want for buying, selling, being inspired by those more expert and chatting about photography skills and trends. I've posted some from my recent travels to Greece and Wales on the gallery. Thanks to all who have responded. I'll try to check it out more myself as it seems neglected by the most vocal.
