I was obsessive and bought K-5:

... a new userfriendly ergonomic switches

I like a green light of AF in the dark
and AF is a better (Safox XI+)

But ... Prime II would be changed with some faster engine
or I have to switch off the all corections after shot ...

ISO ... a few better than K-x,
but I expected more, maybe firmware 1.02 - 1.xx would change it.

a video format and file size !!!

a price ... I was obsessive
... who want to have someting immediately,
must pay more ...

yeah I keep hoping there comes along a solution to use the ipad as an external monitor.....
somebody somewhere will hack a cable to take the video out from a dslr and import it through the ipad dock i hope...

Does linux maybe have a tethering program that works with Pentax?

Here you go, don't know which camera it supports.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pkremote/

At least is seems to support the K10D, K20D and the K200D.

not quite what I was thinking...
What I'm thinking of is running the video out from the camera to the ipad and using the ipad as an external monitor for the camera...

or through usb using the ipad camera conection kit and an ipad app to shoot tethered to the ipad.

in either case using the ipad as a live monitor...

maybe the eye-fi cards with an ipad ap would work in studio where you have a wireless network...

My comment was about this

There are Linux version that can run on ARM CPU, the same CPU that's in your iPad. That way you can have a full OS on it and have access to additional programs. However I don't know how well Linux will run on a iPad never looked at that.
I've no idea if there is a tethering Program for iOS but if there was I'm sure you would know that better then me.
That's why I suggested this potentially dangerous work around since I know of no other way.

As far as I know that one doesn't send "liveview" to your computer/iPad so you can't use it as a monitor to operate the camera with.

You can send liveview to a monitor via the HDMI cable. Would it be possible to input HDMI to an iPad (I do not have one so have no idea of their input arrangements).

Output is something different then input not many computers have that capability for HDMI.

Can the K5 actually send the liveview over HDMI?

If the K7 did it (which it does according to a discussion over on dpreview), then I expect the K5 to do it too.

Edit says: I take it back, the K7 did live HDMI. http://vimeo.com/5200965

I will try K-5's LV via HDMI with 32''LCD next weekend.

But I hope that is possible with some Lilliput, Marshall etc. 7-10'' LCD:

When I would use some Tablet than I will be happy,
bacause I am plaining have an internet, e-book, mobile phone, maps, media-player, LCD for DSLR in one 7-10'' unit ...

Tablets/netbooks/notebooks don't have HDMI input,
but solutions for watching are a simply + 1/4 shoe mount ...

... there must be some impulse for producers !!!
Maybe Apple will buy Sony

I hope that we will get it soon,
some 7'' Android Tablet with HDMI input about 200USD.

When DSLR will be used USB 3 or Bluetooth 3 or 802.11n
than we would get Tablet for DSLR with watching + remote control + data storage etc.

I don't see the point in running at 800x480. 720p would be my personal preference, the others don't really offer an advantage over a loupe on the back of the camera.

The way I see it.... there is a possible solution... in a studio environment... requires an airport extreme, an ipad ap that lets you use the ipad as a second monitor over wifi, an elgato video converter, and a mac... you go from your camera out to the elgato video converter to the mac, then display over wifi to the ipad..

too cumbersome and expensive. be nice to just have an ipad connector with hdmi video in (and out) and a Pentax specific Ipad remote viewer/control ap.

Don the app you're tlaking about sounds like the same one Ctein over at The Online Photographer uses to have his iPad as a secondary monitor when using photoshop. He says the refresh speed isn't brilliant, but it's just about usable for photo editing. Pretty coo, but it doesn't sound like it would be fast enough for live view.

This is an interesting solutions for K-5:
1) HDMI display for K-5 and a graphic tablet for postprocessing:
Tablet Wacom Cintiq 12WX + cable HDMI to DVI
(better would be anything what runs on the battery)

2) some cheap notebook for a graphic and other programs like:
ASUS EEE PC 1005PX or faster ACER Aspire ONE D255

3) some mobilephone for internet GSM/3G connection

BUT!!! ... ONE device with all functions would be better and
max.weight 1kg, too

... the battery life on any dSLR when running video is truly awful. We had two 7ds on set last week and always one battery was on charge, another cam was using mains power and then we scraped through.

Next problem: Atom isn't fast enough to show Full-HD, never mind play with it. An ion chipset mini-itx box is getting there, but still is too slow. At least a Dual core at 2GHz with 4GB RAM and a *shitload* of diskspace (we filled three 32GB cards with two days' worth of shooting without trying and half the time only one cam was running); I worked it out to be 40MB/sec --> 2GB per minute of video. Do the maths...3G is not fast enough, no network is. 1Mb means 100MB / hour. A real upload speed on HSDPA might hit double that - there's no point.

I think our solution will be out to a relatively high-res monitor (full-HD capable laptop, maybe, or 1440p capable) and then an external disk or two for multiple copies on-set.

Netbook with Atom D525(dual core 1.8GHz) + NVIDIA GT218 (for Photoshop, Silkypix etc.) + HDMI input (only for function bigger display of K-5 ... who will be first?) + via USB for data transfer from K-5 to netbook ...

Several batteries aren't problem... (classic of K-5 or AA)

I expect it with Seagull View Finder Magnifier 2.3X
+ 8'' Android 2.2 epad google Tablet iMX515 4GB
+ Nokia X03-02 ...
