PC OR MAC ?

I'm also using both, have been using Windows since 3.1. Last year I bought a Mac laptop (13" Macbook Pro) and was very suspicious if I would get along with the different OS. A trial in the shop and the assurance that I could run it dual boot with Windows made me buy it.
Never even considered putting Windows on it. MacOS is the much better system from the user point of view. Most often things work the way you would think they should (at other times I have been trained to think like a Windows user).

For my next desktop I will think very hard if I get a PC again or a Mac. Both systems work well for me, with MacOS having a slight edge.

What is true, though, is that if you can do everything you want on the PC you can stick with that system. You would need to buy new software as well as the (more expensive) hardware.
The Mac won't make you any more or less efficient than the PC.

Lot of anger there. Why would you want to buy MP3's from Apple if you dislike them so much?

I download elsewhere and use Media Monkey to load & remove tracks on the iPod's.

Since Symantec bought Norton, it has been a cancer on hard drives.

It was just one rare album track I was after. The Supremes and Temptations River Deep and Mountain High. I don't usually buy MP3's I prefer CD's and I just tried Itunes after they said I needed their player installed I bought it from Woolworths a lot cheaper, then found it on a Motown Compilation CD on ebay so I bought that as well.

Surely the Supremes and the Four Tops.

The Four Tops version isn't as good. Just as the Four Tops version of Walk Away Renee wasn't a patch on the original by Left Banke

Sony doesn't make PC's by my knowledge although they have all-in-one desktop but those are more a laptop.
Alienware has been taken over by Dell and they are now solely aimed for gamers (with very ugly cases), they used to have some workstations but not anymore.
You're pretty much stuck with HP i think

The best you can do is make your own pc, that way you can pick all the high quality hardware from known manufactures insuring a stable PC.
Unlike Mac the manufactures off the hardware make the drivers so a lot also depends on them.
It's pretty much Murphy prove to build one although you need to be a bit technical.

One thing to consider is how you organise and use your computer.
I loath and detest drop-down menus with a passion. If you're like me, don't get a mac. I rarely even use the "Start" button and explains why I have over 70 short-cuts on the desktop.

I have used a mac, and initially thought the idea of having mac's version of PC dll files switchable for fault finding, a good idea - until I actually had to do some fault finding - infuriating!
That was a long time ago, but more recently I had to buy a lap book pro (or something like that) for my son doing graphics and animation at Uni; who of course use mac software!
Having seen him use it, across, down, up, new window, scroll etc...
I thought, "some things don't change".
On the up side, being a poor student in digs, it serves him well as an extra radiator to keep the legs warm (uncomfortably warm actually).
Now he intends to swap to PC because he can get the massive amounts of computing power he needs at an affordable price.
And, he has now actually admitted that he's looking forward to moving to moving back to PC - YES!

What sort of Filemanager does a Mac have?

Windows haven't had a decent one since NT 4. I still use that on XP Pro and Win 7 but some bits such as configuring the toolbar won't work on the later versions of Windows. Still better than Explorer you can log as many drives as you want to separate Windows and have it launched with them logged as drop zones. It writes better to DVD-RAM disks as well.

Why are we having this debate ?

We've had it before and it went nowhere then , except it did cause the release of a lot of hot air.

I use the laptop / Desktop that suits MY perceived needs

Mac has some pro's and neg's and the same is true for Win or Linux.
Linux you can easily try out since it work on everything.
It's just that for a Mac that the hardware is "selective" so you need to by a Mac to run MacOS so it's difficult to test them.

There are some ways to run Mac virtually.
Shaky knows quite a bit about that I believe.
That way you could try Mac out (at least the interface) to see if you like it.

Stefan - Sony Vaio desktop. Why does the all-in-one form factor make it 'not a PC'? Or do you also think the iMac is not a PC?

Desguy - if you hate menus and use shortcuts, why don't you just do the same thing on the Mac? It has shortcuts as well you know ... In fact if you really like the command line you would love a Mac nowadays.

Oh my I didn’t want to start a PC v Mac war here; I just wanted to see which would be the best all in all,with what i was told?
I think that it’s with what suits you the best,PC or Mac but it’s been very interesting to see all your comments and what each of you use! Over all the PC takes it by an over all 81%
