The design update will be laying the groundwork to move towards a site which works well on any device. A whole lot of people these days browse on tablets and phones. It would be silly to ignore this.

Smacks of rearranging deck chairs.
Feedback provided a range of suggestions about improving PU, most on the topics of moderation, image size, and other important matters, none that I recall on graphic user interface.
This redesign may look nicer, but it's less practical as a photographic website. The forum needs a change of direction not decoration.

Dave,
I'm not convinced it's an improvement.
On a 24" monitor, there's too much space around the screen, too much white background which I reckon causes eye strain, and too much scrolling.
My tuppence anyways...

I'm finding that the text and photos in some of the posts are running under the ads down the right hand side of my screen. Look at this example; https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/topic/a-trio-of-limiteds-51682
Also, on my 24" monitor the screen is white background from edge to edge with the text in the middle; the menu bar is also edge to edge.

We are aware of this. It's actually something we want to improve in the next phases of development in which we make the site friendly for all screen sizes including smartphones and tablets. We will be looking to making the 'site' space larger on larger screens while condensing it to fit and flow better on smaller screens.Also, on my 24" monitor the screen is white background from edge to edge with the text in the middle; the menu bar is also edge to edge.
If you don't mind me asking. Those of you with 24" monitors, what screen resolution are you using? Our statistics show that the majority of our visits are from users with 1280px or less wide screens in which the new design fits snuggly within with very minimal margin to the left and right.

Dave my my 24" monitor is set at 1680x1050. hth.
Just had a quick look at the site on my android phone, when you pinch to zoom in, the PU banner at the top is fixed, so for example you can't get to the gallery link on the top banner.
