New Pentax dslr announced

I'd love to see a Pentax mirrorless but I think from what was said at the last interview with the management, that they still feel a 100% OVF is better for now, that will change and soon I suspect, having used both pretty extensively, I sort of agree for the moment. However the sheer amount of information available in the viewfinder of an EVF is fantastic and the fact that since your shooting in live view all the time you get to see in real time tbe effects of any exposure alterations you make, this simply cannot be underestimated! They need a little more Resolution up to maybe four million pixels, reduce the flicker and the delay/gain noise, (However good people think EVF's are when your shooting action your looking at a preview of the last shot you took, it's still not quite in real time but getting closer!) and the icing on the cake would be adobe rgb monitor and viewfinder! If they get that little lot together any time soon I can see me taking my OVF's putting them in the trash and spitting on them!

That's a pretty useless camera You have to open the rear screen to do anything and they look to have made the same mistake Sony did with some DV cameras having a switch that moves from still to video. I used to think I was shooting video, but I was actually taking crappy little JPEGs sometimes with my DV camera.

Screen out with a long lens would be a nightmare.

I would expect, like the 750Z, that the screen can simply be rotated a pressed back into position with the active side visible. This enables the screen to be turned to closed when not in use, if desired. Frankly I'm quite happy with a fixed screen and rarely use the articulation on my MX-1.

One assumes the screen will flip around and sink back into its hidy hole to operate like a 'normal' DSLR screen?

That thumb rubber seems weirdly tiny considering the deep thumb moulding we've had previously. The whole grip looks quite boxy. I'll need to go and view my K-30 for comparison...

I'm not a huge fan of using the on off lever for video. Personally that shiny wifi buttons looks like a more sensible place, or leave it on the mode dial.

I'm thinking not a touch screen given they still printed the tree wide/zoom icons on the rear scroll wheel.

FYI: You will find similar on higher end camcorders that shoot stills as well as video.
My old SD700 has this arrangement as well.

The camera's made for the 'fondle slab' generation' to do 'selfies' so the fact that an old school photographer hasn't got room for his thumb doesn't enter the equation

That's also why the screen flips to the side where everyone can see it, so it's no use for candid shots where a screen that just drops down (MX-2 style) would be better and hidden from view. Also for low down macro use, the rear would be better, very often there isn't much room to get the camera in and a side screen means it's like making room for a 10x8inch view camera

Certainly isn't for me I'm right handed for one thing.

There's just no way of holding a camera steady with the screen sticking out on the left. The only way is use it one handed, but it doesn't even have a good right hand grip.

On a practical note, I don't see any problem using two hands to hold a camera, right handed or not. One hand under the lens, one on the grip. A screen coming out sideways makes no difference to that.

I could see this getting a bit of traction to be honest, would have to try it first of course and wait for the inevitable first production run malodies and of course, Seeing what the K3 MkII brings to the table over the original, first!
but I'm liking what I see here. I am going to assume it's more video oriented but it appears to have enough going on to make it a decent stills camera, would be a lovely compact unit with a DA40.
More rumours emerging about the IBIS, I have a feeling we may have hardware stabilisatiion for video back, which would please Richard. Unconfirmed but nice to hear it mentioned, like many I have no interest in video but then I'm not everybody. I have video to thank for the flappy paddle screen which suits me for handheld like a waist level finder, which these days I find steadier than eye level when I forget to bring me tripod (Often!). I am also assuming the same sensor as the K-S1 and not the K3 here, which means 12 bit I guess, I'm not sure quite how much that is likely to bother me, unless they've crammed a decent amount of RAM in there for it to crunch the numbers, then the 24Mp one would be ok too. Correct me if I'm wrong but AFAIK, the 20Mp Sony sensor is only available in 12 bit unlike the old 16Mp one which had both versions?

I am also hearing that it may have AF in video, would be nice for the videographers too, would it be then too much to ask for peaking and zebra's? I have to say the screen hinge/swivel attachment looks very robust which is reassuring, if it's a touch screen I hope you can turn it off? I run hot and my sweaty little mitts are no good with touch screens! Wonder how much then, with our "Rip off Britain Price tags"??? The price for the body I heard qouted when the piccies first appeared seemed very low...

It does look very good after the fugly K-S1. Good to see Ricoh haven't totally lost the plot.
