KP...What Do You Think?

From how I read it doesn't havae a touch screen, there is no built in star tracker (you have to buy the O-GPS1 GPS for this) and it only has one card slot (a second, for storage only is in the optional grip).

Unless you want to shoot at ISO 800,000, of course

they always start the price high and let the price drops to where it finds a sweet spot between sales and profit margins...
expect the new k3 replacement to get announced in six months after Pentax finds the right selling price for this model.

I doubt if it'll drop the £500 it needs to until they start to clear all the stock they'll have left.

srs have had a play with one
tilt screen ( ideal for street photography)
new sencor from sony ( so pentax as tweaked it to see how much iso they can get out of it)
smaller body (so when you put your standerd lenses on it it looks stupid) really its made for the people that have spent a fortune on the limited range of lenses as they look out of place really on a k3ii
really it dose the same as the k3ii if you are going to upgrade you would just go ff

Think people are confusing the new rumour with the the news about KP. I'm on my phone so won't post a link but it's in one of the groups on Facebook, from a French source, regarding the proper Pentax K3II successor coming out in circa 6 months they claim. Which makes way more sens in many ways - from the naming convention used with the KP to it's design.

I stopped waiting quite recently, and took the plunge with the K-70. So I will not be down the road of KP nuts. So my novelty is about matching older lenses with the new camera and trying to improve on outcomes as compared with the K-50 - which should be quite easy (?) There is something funny about high speeds on the K-70 but I cannot quite fathom it. I am not getting the sharp focus I was led to anticipate...

the 3200 ISO noise is too high to brag about a 800k iso

Nail on head, it is basically a Pentax (Nikon) Df but in another sense it is a Pentax (Fuji) X-Pro2, it's specifically aimed at those who like the small and light asthetic, yes I know it weighs a bit and the overall dimensions are similar to the K3 but look at the actual body size/width not the lens mount protrusion. It's almost like an old film camera! It's a hipster digital ME, a street shooters camera, heavy enough to instill the quality vibe and combined with a limited you've got yourself a hipster classic. In it's own way it'll be a hit but it's very much one of a kind and a world away from the K-01 IMHO...

I think you guys have got it right, the KP is not intended to be part of the 'K-' series. It's a different type of camera, intended to appeal to different persona or different usage, perhaps to indulge our tendency for nostalgia or the tradition of photography; it is unashamedly retro, but at the same time, under the skin is a contemporary Pentax. This camera is not really intended to be progressive in terms of technicalities, we'll have to wait for the K-3ii replacement.

I personally do not consider that the offerings that Pentax give us as mutually exclusive. For different occasions I use different cameras; the K-1 paired with the D-FA 15-30 is my landscape and architecture camera or paired with the FA-77 or DA* is good for portraits, both situations where I can take my time to get the best photo I can from the given subject matter. The K-3ii now fulfills the role of a camera with high resolution at long reach therefore is good for wildlife and nature especially when paired with the D-FA 150-450, DA* 300 and DA* 60-250, the K-S2 is a nice walk-around camera that makes good use of Limited lenses or the smaller standard zoom lenses - useful for street photography and family outings. When I need to travel light, the exQuisite Q7 is good (would be better with EVF). If I eventually do acquire a KP, it will be to replace the K-S2 because it is begging to have Limited lenses paired with it.

I haven't seen a picture of a silver KP with any of the black limited lenses, but I expect that will convince a good many of us that the KP has an important place in Pentax heritage. Nice camera, well done Pentax, this is an answer to Fuji and Nikon retro bodies in so many respects.

I think you're on the mark there, I'm not sure there will be one model that incorporates all the others combined, there are aspects of a couple of different models out there that I like but not one that does all.
If I was in a position to do so I'd buy 3 or maybe 4 , but I'm not so it's one body only for me.
I really do like the style of the kp, but for now it's probably going to be a K3ii for me.
I do think it's great to see new stuff coming out as it shows some commitment to moving the brand on.
