but its not going to be available till end of feb but was told can have a play with one on the 11th of feb

A camera with a too high price. At this price it was normal to have all the K3II features plus new KP features. Now Pentax has a market share of 4.5%, probably Ricoh has proposed 3.5% in the future with such a pricing policy. KP was actually announced to increase K3II sales

I wouldn't buy a camera for this price that went backwards with some of the spec I have with my K3. Slower frames per second burst (poorer processor & OS memory?) , smaller LCD, much smaller battery unless you buy the grip (included in USA I read), single SD slot, some sockets missing Oh and checking SRS listings it's not smaller than the K3 II and only slightly lighter at 703 g loaded with small battery and one sd card.

it does though mean the K3 II replacement may be slotted into £1200 to £1500 price range! DUH!

I'll be rather disappointed if this is, in fact, the APS-C flagship. I tend to reserve judgment until more information is available but so far it comes across as more of KS style premium' line then the K3 one.

Two things I do like, is the size. and the overall aesthetic.

Few things I dislike:
- one too many dials; I don't use the extra one on the K1; I just don't have any need for it; most of those functions can be very easily accessed via other means - it's seems like an even worse idea on a smaller camera.
- it cost us the top lcd; which is almost inexcusable in my eyes, at least at that price point;
- the price - overpriced by Pentax standards ?
- the materials and built quality/feel looks more like the KS2 and it's the most plastic feeling Pentax dslr since K100D (granted, the little thing was/is indestructible), I am just picky with how things feel to touch

I think Ricoh would be taking a not insignificant risk designating it as the K3 line successor but we still don't really know much about high iso and af performance.

Unfortunately no. I am out of the country until the 20th. Maybe they will have another event a bit later.

Good to know, cheers Regardless of whether I'm personally excited for something, it's always good seeing Pentax release stuff. Keeps the company rolling.

What have you been waiting for?
I'm guessing a Nikon D500/Canon 7DII competitor ... I would love to be proved wrong but I doubt it will ever happen.
It's what I would like. Since having experienced a play with a D500 I'm very tempted to jump ship. Autofocus tracking is exceptional.
So wish my k3ii was this good. 😥

You say you dislike this - have you touched and felt?
Lots of gear - but not a lot of idea!

Other than wvbarnes comment above - do we definitely know there is only one card slot?
If there is - what a retrograde step..

Love the looks, the size and weight are very much intriguing, wildly expensive though. Having a camera that size but with DSLR battery life and grip options (on camera grip) is also intriguing.

Rumours of the digital mirrorless ME / MX excite me even more though, a digital MX is all I've ever wanted. I've got A7r which is close but it doesn't say Pentax on the front obviously.
