KP...What Do You Think?

I've seen the answer in the US forum - only one card slot - 'nuff said.

Are we now convinced that this is a follow up to the K-70, not the K-3 series? I'm sure the results will be no worse than a K-3, but it lacks some of the features, top LCD, dual card slots, GPS to name but three. Then it includes an onboard flash, albeit weaker than that on the K-70, but the K-3ii and K-1 abandoned that.
To say the KP is heir to the K-3 series is a marketing mishap, but with all the hidden trays and grips there's plenty of space to squirrel away your packs of nuts.

it's a wonderful little camera.
no sale for me. it's not enough differences to make it worthwhile...
it's about the perfect companion for a k1 or 645 shooter looking for a second camera.
I suspect the price will drop then we'll see one model just above it come out to replace the k3II

Unless SRS web pages have it wrong I actually thought the K3's were about 770 grams loaded. I don't see where the compactness and lightness is do you?

Pentax KP dimensions: Dimensions:131.5 x 101 x 76mm (excluding protrusion). Weight:703g (with battery and SD card).
Pentax K-3 II dimensions: Dimensions:131.5 x 102.5 x 77.5mm (excluding operation parts and protrusion).Weight:715g (with battery and SD card).

I tend to. Some sort of posh upgrade to K-70, with a couple of extra talents.

In answer to the question what I would expect from a new DSLR, and I will probably get laughed off, but I was hoping for some sort of K-3 mark III to, similarly to 3II, maintain no built-in flash and had GPS instead, plus had better AF, metering, WiFi/blutooth connectivity and.. yup, also integrated vertical grip. But instead we have got something in the retro style of Fujifilm cameras - probably Pentax answer to Fuiji's entry into Pentax dominated medium format game

Is there any real advantage of a KP over a K-70, given the new camera is twice the price? I don't wish to do the company down, but personally I wouldn't have thought so. Conversely I feel a K-3ii would still be an upgrade over either of them (despite what they say) and that one is £400 less than the KP.
The K-1 is fabulous but not sure where they want to go with this new one. Will it end up being a white elephant like the K-01? (I appreciate the K-01 was a fine camera for what it is as the KP will be, but not at that asking price, it needs to be less than a K-3ii.)

Tend to agree. Lots of development around housing the same tech in new bodies. Shades of the K-S1/K-S2 models really, with a push to make DSLR's smaller.

Still the same 2012 video offering from what I can gather, so poor quality bit rates, no sensor stabilisation or focus peaking during video recording. That's quite disappointing given it's now 2017, some 5 years on and still not attention to this.

I like the look of the KP, but the price is quite hard to reconcile. From memory the K-S1 launched like this also, to similar reactions from users.

This camera has autofocus in video mode, is that an improvement?
Anyway Is their some kind of law which restricts video capabilities in stills cameras to 29 minutes?

I can't really imagine why Pentax have made this step. It looks good, but looks don't sell (camera) bodies. Just look how fugly some Canikon bodies are, and they sell very well indeed.

Yeah, they brought this out in the K-70. Works on a select few lenses. Bit rate, no focus peaking during recording, lack of real SR etc are all common to the Ricoh era. Kinda sad given Pentax were right in the game with the K-7/K-5 models, years ago now.

It's not a law, but an old fashioned EU tax bracket criteria issue. Stills cameras are taxed less than video cameras from memory, and the definition states that it's a video device if it can continuously record for more than half an hour straight. Something along those lines. Personally I'd be using a camcorder if I ever wanted to do that though anyway.

Nope, that is why I did say it 'looks like it is' and that I may be proven wrong when it comes to my assumptions. The silver version looks a bit cheap on screen. I do realize it may turn out to be fantastic. Ricoh should've commissioned pixel shift product photos

I think this is an interesting camera - Pentax are again testing something new (for Pentax) - a touch screen (though there are differing reports on this - it really should have one if it doesn't!) and interchangeable grips (I think the LX had that!). As for the price, just look at the GBP exchange rate, this time last year, this would have been £200 cheaper!

Also, this has the Star Tracker and a built in Flash and high speed electronic shutter!

According to the specification on the Pentax site it has a dual card slot and WiFi.

It's not for me but does make the Pentax 3iii (wonder what they will call it) look like a worthy high end APS-C camera, I just hope I can afford it!
