K5IIs lock up

Think I was the 1st to report this. Mine did it 3 times over the course of the 1st 3 days, I said if it did it again it was going back, I still have it.
From memory it had the grip on with a new Hama battery in. Had to pull all the battery's to get it back. This was on the original firmware. As I say, its been absolutely fine since.
Out of curiosity has it happened to anyone MORE THAN three times??

I've not had my K5ii lock up, however my K5 did lock up once. I was shooting in AF-C mode and high speed continuous shooting with a screw drive lens trying (!) to track birds in flight. It knackered the lenses drive and had to be sent to sigma for repair.
It was as if the camera couldn't cope with the constantly changing focus and trying to fire the shutter at the same time. I don't use AF-C now but gently press the shutter button constantly to keep tracking something and have not had a lock up since on K5 or K5ii (K5 lock up was about 18 months ago and I've taken 1000's of pics with it since).
Were you using AF-C ?

I'm getting a feeling that lockup seems to mainly happen when the grip is being used.
Maybe it's the switching from one battery to the other when the first runs too low?
I can't test that suggestion as I don't use a grip. I have never had a lockup with any Pentax DSLR.

Mine hasn't locked up since I stopped using the Hama battery. I don't have a grip.

I know for a fact that my grip battery was fully charged. It does seem to be grip related so far.I'm getting a feeling that lockup seems to mainly happen when the grip is being used.

How is every one having the grip/body battery use set?
Mine is set to use the grip battery 1st, that way it makes it easy enough to change the battery that's running low, effectively having the in body battery as a back up, just a thought.

I remember this was an issue with the K10 and grip also.
I had continuous lockups with the K10 when running with the grip and two batteries, changed to running a single battery in the grip ( I still do this now with the K5) and never experienced any further problems, I wonder if the same issue may be have arisen again.
Will be interesting to see if Matt has more of the same problem running with one battery in the grip.

Hasn't happened to me in a long while noticed it was when battery low ,always set to grip first had a suspicion it was when changing to camera battery . Now when grip get low I change on menu it hasn't happened since(hope this isn't famous last words)

Twice without grip (i.e. no grip at all!)
It's not the grip with the K5IIs.
My suggestion was based on the fact that using the grip is nicer, but having a quick removal of the battery seems a good idea - so using a single grip battery is probably quicker to reboot than the fiddly body battery release lock and catch.

My K5-iis locked three times on monday - no grip just the original battery which was almost fully charged at the time. Hoping to get out with it again tomorrow, so will wait to see if it happens again. Only had it since friday.

I had my K5II lock up on me twice in the space of about an hour.
I only use a battery in the grip.

Covered my son's school rugby match yesterday. K5IIs did very well with both DA*50-135 and DA55-300. Focus was mostly bang on the money. Got some cracking shots - so was really pleased (>650 images, whittled down to 280! Yikes!)
However, the body locked up three times!
First time was with the grip and two Pentax batteries. Removed the grip to get at the body battery. Left grip off. After second lockup (with just the 201101 dated battery in the body) I switched to the battery supplied with the body. Locked up again in the middle of the second half
I think there's still a firmware gremlin lurking! Yes, it was version 1.03 firmware
Settings (from memory): User Mode 5, P mode, high speed program line, auto ISO, light & medium shadow correction, highlight correction, 16Mp *** JPG, high speed continuous shooting, Portrait colour, (mostly) custom white balance.
Using 16GB Samsung Extreme Class 10 card.
For now (at least), I'll shoot with one battery in the grip when doing fast action stuff - so I can reboot the camera quickly!!
