K5 Battery Query

Ive been using my newly acquired K5 for two weeks now.

I did a whole days shooting with it yesterday but wasnt blown away by the battery performance.

Perhaps someone can assist me with a few these observations?

1) Ive only ever used batteries so battery packs are new to me. Is it too much to ask for 250 shots out of one battery?
I got the red light quickly followed by the battery depleted after shooting for thirty minutes and add to change to another.
2) When the second battery was depleted I had to revert back to the original that gave me ten more shots.
3) When I put the battery on the charger when the green light disappears does that mean its fully charged?

Batteries need to be charged fully before first use. Then they will gradually improve in performance, reaching their peak after a few recharge cycles.

When I am on holiday, shooting images all day, then a K-5 battery will generally last me 2-3 days. That would be about 500+ shots. When shooting in the studio the battery managed 260 shots, but then the camera was literally switched on all day without much of a break.

Yes, when the light goes out full charge has been reached.

Yeah green light off means fully charged.
As for the battery life it seems poor, maybe an old battery? The last shoot I did was of one of my nephews and I filled a 16gig card with over 450 shots (he just wouldn't smile for me) and got about 300 onto another card. So your 250 seems a little odd to me Mate

No you should get a lot more and yes re the charger light.

I turn off all sounds and the auto LCD preview after taking a shot. I press play if I want to see images. I also have the top panel light off by default.

Otherwise it depends how often you look at pics. Live view eats the battery but not something I use.

Shot a wedding yesterday, my original Pentax battery did over 500 shots with a fair amount of reviewing on the back screen.

Yes, as others have said 500+ shots should be achievable, I have certainly got 600+ even with preview and top LCD on.

I shoot around 6-700 images on a saturday niht in the club with top lcd on and constantly reviewing to show club clientelle their image.

You'll get less with the Sigma 150-500 if you are using the OS. I've never took much notice of how many shots I get. I just make sure I have two batteries

I've been on a days shoot and got 2000 shots from one battery ( both Pentax and third party ) That's K-5 with LCD preview on. I didn't get that many with my previous K-20D. Very impressed.

I find live view is the battery drainer if anything
