K5IIs lock up

No issues with my 5ii since purchase and then two lockups this morning. As with others above, it froze between shots *whilst not looking at it*.

but on both occasions, the exposure was showing 1/350 f8. (Av, auto ISO)

Had my K5 lock up twice with quite a long time between each event, released the pentax genuine battery and it reset instantly ok each time. Fortunately not doing anything critical at the time, just put it down to an undocumented feature of pentax K5

The instruction manual tells us that a build up of static electricity is the cause, but removing and replacing the battery will reset things again. If it does, then "no repair is necessary".

I mention this because today in Manchester almost every metal rail that I touched gave me a shock and I just wondered if there's a build up of static at the moment. Weather? Imminent invasion by Daleks?

The serious question is, have the places where this has happened been likely to have any static around? It seems the effect can happen but it has really been very rare until this spate of reports. What's the common denominator?

If/when it happens again I'll take note of the circumstances.

1st couple of times I was in the living room, the 3rd time I was out in the field, actually in a field! Was static around? Don't think so, never had a shock in the living room in the past and I was deep in mud the last time so I don't think static was an issue then.
How about everyone else?

In the In the greenhouse at RHS Wisley. Warm and slightly humid, so unlikely to have been static.

Beside a river - both urban [on a footpath] and rural [thick mud] - on one occasion damp and foggy - on another cold and windy.

Not static for me. Signs of a small firmware issue - I've made many such subtle errors in my time with firmware!!

Fair enough guys, it was just a thought.

Well, my K5-lls was returned after having the latest firmware installed as this should cure the fault I'm told . The good news - it has'nt locked up again. The bad news - when using tav mode and av modes yesterday I kept getting massive over exposures - setting exp.comp. to the biggest minus setting just about got correct exposures. Not every time but it seemed to be in batches. I've never had that happen before with any camera. More testing today - so pleased I've got my trusty K-30 to use!

Just a thought ... if it does it when not actually being fired try changing the camera time out to never. It may just be an unlucky timing issue.

As I said in a previous thread about this problem I had it a few times with the original K-5 but (and this just may be coincidence)once I changed the timeout and started using both Pentax batteries in the body and grip it didn't happen again.
