K5IIs lock up

My K5-II is on FW Version 1.03 and I had some lockups two weeks ago shooting stock cars. I replaced the battery and had no more issues.
After I got home I noticed that the battery that I had removed was a third party battery, not original Pentax. All batteries were fully charged prior to the meeting too.

It's also worth noting that it didn't lock up while shooting... that is to say, it rattled away like a good'un, I then paused and found that it wasn't focussing (with the AF button) and was unresponsive.
Having had a long history of firmware coding, I'd imagine there's just a small issue that's fixable - it's just pinning it down. Shame they didn't make use of a hardware watchdog that performs a reset automatically, rather than having to remove batteries!
I have the chance for another school match next week - but probably not the time! If I do get there, I'll try tweaking a couple of settings to try and perform a process of elimination
Note: I'd also point out that I've had no lock up issues other than while shooting at 7fps rugby, and am still really pleased with the K5IIs

Same here- it only locks between bursts of shooting. Annoying to have to flip the battery and really annoying if you miss a bit of not to be repeated action. Not really happy to have a problem in the first few days with a camera that cost a fair bit, especially as others seem to have the same problem. A bit worried that if I ask to exchange it, the replacement could be just the same. Other than that, it's a fantastic bit of kit!

That is really annoying - the camera was supposedly newly in stock and i'd have thought it would have the latest firmware.

It's going back for exchange. It's only a niggly little thing but I've only had it for 6 days and I'd like a new camera start out perfect!

If it is a firmware issue, having it replaced won't solve the problem. The fix will come with an future firmware update.

A new replacement camera will probably still have the original firmware version 1.00. It's worth updating it before you send/take it back to the supplier.

It's being collected on Monday. I'm not the most demanding of customers normally [I did'nt even bother about the little sensor stain on my original K-5 until it developed another problem]but, having spent over £800, I just think it should be perfect out of the box - if it is'nt then it's Pentax's problem. It seems people with firmware version 1.03 have also had this problem too.

I think you've done the right thing.
