K5 Sensor Issues...

I am guessing that I am not being too being picky and that this is a sensor stain?

It is not as distinct as the stain on my first K5 and it hasn't changed with a wet clean. I can see it with my glasses on and a bright torch. This one came from Jessops Guildford during the short price drop last weekend, it has an old serial number 387xxxx and PhotoMe says it was manufactured in September 2010. At the time of purchase, the staff were very understanding about the concerns I had regarding that serial number, I will see how easily this translates into a replacement tomorrow.

Not sure about the one on the left but you certainly have something in the middle starting to appear and as it will only get worse with time I would take it back.

I wouldn't be touching a pre 2011 date anyway tbh .. my third (and so far perfectly fine) body is dated April 2011.

Yes, I agree, this was the last kit in the shop and at £829 with the 18-55 WR, I decided to take it, I also had a £140 voucher so that tied me to Jessops. I am a very price sensitive buyer, and if it turned out to be a dud, they would either replace it or refund me, so no loss really. At the end of the day, I still have a Kx. I have spoken to Jessops now and they have a new stock one coming in direct from Pentax with my name on it. That one had better be perfect or I will be looking for a refund or maybe on a different shelf for an equivalent. Sadly, I have now used the K5 just enough to know that I really like some of the things it helps me do, but still, this is strike 2.

So far I have found Jessops surprisingly helpful and intelligent! I never would have thought I would put my hand in my pocket in that shop again, but then they are just a broker between the maker and the consumer and they seem to be doing that OK at the moment.

Read through this thread. Chris, when are you going to set up a SRS branch in New Zealand. I would purchase from such a retailer, even if it cost me a little extra. I belive in fair payment for a fair service or product.

Do you post to New Zealand.

Sad to see it go, but makes room for an eventual upgrade to the K5 or the K4?

Surfseen, despite the Ding Dong on the other thread (!). I think your comments remind me that we are very fortunate to have a plethora of good retailers in the UK. I didnt buy my K5 from SRS but from Clifton Cameras because it was near to where I worked- when the dreaded stain was revealed they referred me to Johnsons Photopia (Pentax approved repairers in the UK). The camera was collected the next day and a new one delivered two days after that. I was kept informed via email several times and had communication from Cliftin Cameras, Pentax UK and Johnsons Photopia.

Do you have a shortage of decent camera dealers in NZ across the board or is it just a problem with Pentax?

I think the supporting network for retail and servicing would be an important factor in which brand to go with sounds like Pentax don't have the coverage in NZ.

As a consolation you do have some of the most stunning scenery on the planet

We have good camera shops, just Pentax blows out the prices hugely.
Presumably a Pentax/wholesaler issue

The "Aussie tech tax" made the news recently, I believe I also heard something about NZ voicing the same complaints:

Me too! Just spotted "The Yes Album". Used to watch them regularly about the time that was released! "Yours Is No Disgrace" what a track - went a bit daft a few albums later though!

Hi
Please help I am gutted
I have purchased a Pentax K5 this week from Warehouse Express and have used the camera for the first time. All my shots have got a blob on them which I think must be a sensor problem because I have used 2 different lenses and the blob appears on all photos.
Any of you folks give me some advice about the issue. The camera was brand new in a sealed box.
How can i tell how old the body is from the serial number.

Post a picture, the sensor stain looked more like a row of tiny dots and could only be seen well when zoomed real close in. Your's sounds like a simple dust bunny and unlikely anything to worry about. Like I said post a photo and you will get plenty of helpful replies.
