I'm pretty sure this is a stain, but it would be great to have other views.
Yup .. looks like a stain to me.

Think these cameras will be haunting Pentax for a long time to come.

As it's within 28 days just ask for a refund.

Mike - thankyou for the quick reply! I just found the pentax site which shows an example and it looks almost identical!

I've emailed Novatech and asked for a full refund, so will wait and see what they say.

It seems a real pity that this problem has been knocking around for so long - other than the stain it seem like a fantastic camera!

Cheers,
Sam

393

I've got a note of the manufacture date at work so i'll post that later incase it is useful to anyone! Pretty sure it is an early 2011 model, possibly Janiary.

So to update, the serial is a 393 and the manufacture date was 20 Jan 2011!

Not unknown in that range, so commiserations. It's not much of a welcome, however you'll appreciate just how good this system is when it's sorted.

Thanks i-Berg! I'm already convinced of how nice the camera is - just want to get a new one ASAP!

Is there any particular lens that should be used to see the fault, does it show up better with 300mm lens rather than a 50mm?

Philip.

I tested mine with the standard 18-55 kit lens. Focus to infinity, f22 or smaller and then shot at a white-ish wall, moving the camera around slightly to make sure any stains were clearly on the sensor rather than marks on the wall. I also then did the same test using a plain sheet of white paper. Took me about 5 minutes total. Once I'd got the picture I zoomed in on the camera and had a good look around, and then loaded the images onto PC and did the same. The stains are clear even when looking at the images in-camera (zoomed in).

I found a macro lens to be the best for the stain issue.
Shot mine at a blank piece of paper at f22 with onboard flash enabled.

Wow, I have just checked for stains and for my surprise they are there. I bought the camera 3 weeks ago and didn't bother to test, because it is manufactured in April 2011, serial starting with 404... I believed they have addressed the issue with newer batches, but obviously - they haven't.

So, just for the info, higher serial number is not enough guarantee for stains free sensor.

I`ll take one off your hands if it`s got a dodgy sensor - at the right price it will be the only way I can afford one !!!!

You've got a good point. However I hope for replacement since I'm still having 23 months warranty left.
