K5, was it worth the wait?

I might swap a K10 for one, but then again I might wait for next Autumn's new model

I'm quite happy with my K20D, but the K5 sounds soooo good.

Bettar AF, better ISO and you can turn off the NR so no waiting for ages for night-time shooting.

I'm starting to save now... just keep it too yourselves for the moment, won't tell the other half till next year...

you can turn nr of on the k20d. also do people not shoot raw.

I can't turn the NR off on my K20D but have heard there is a way, not brave enough to do that just now.

If I had that sort of cash spare I'd be considering the K-5 but I don't and I am rarely frustrated with the K20D for the sorts of photography I enjoy. Even if I had the money I would still be of a mind to invest in some quality long lenses instead. It is not that I think the K-5 isn't a good camera, it is just that my priorities lie elsewhere at the moment. I'll probably pick up a second hand one a few years down the line.

No you can't. Not the Dark Frame anyway, which is the annoying part. I tried the hack but it didn't work.

If anyone has got it to work please post exactly what yuo did to achieve this? TIA

Here's my view! The K7's body feels right and is built like a tank and the K5 has kept the original body of the K7. Hi ISO? I guess it depends on what you are shooting. However, their are some very good noise reduction software programmes if noise is a real issue which will provide a good end result (my opinion) for any camera model and make. Speed improvements! Can't argue, it has been improved and this coupled with the focusing is a big improvement.

Obviously the K5 will be better than the K7 as technology should be fluid and not static, so perhaps the question should really be, are the improvements worth the price of upgrading? If someone gave me £1200 yes i would go out and by a K5, but for me I will stick with the K7 and keep developing my photographic knowledge and skills, as the K7 has served me really well in these areas and I have become very attached to my k7.

I guess by the time i will be able to afford a K5, their will be a K4 or K3 and everyone will be asking the same questions and posting the same reply's. I can't wait for some really in depth reviews.

My strategy seems to be skip one. My first (Digital) was the istD, then I think the K10 launched(am I right) but I waited until the K20 and have had that from it's first day out. Skipped the K7 and if, as probable, will go for the K5, then yes I will skip the next.

But several people have said they want to get the best/more out of what they have already got - never really occured to me that - but a lesson learnt, so I will squeeze all the pips from the K5 if I get it.

Twin dials and the ISO do it for me. My 77 is itching to go out and do some available light pub portraits
Live view and something like a DA15, using the arrow buttons to pick the focusing spot, natural face shots! bit sneaky but hey...

I still find the K20D more comfortable to hold than the lop sided K-7. I do prefer the lower noise from the K-7 images, but they are still not as good as I would like. Having seen some shots taken with the K-5 at high ISO (see AP's forum - Pentax Chat), there does seem to be a considerable improvement.

I think Nikon may still be better in this respect, but a complete change of kit would provoke a divorce! A K-5 might just be tolerated.

Like most, I would like to upgrade, but I will wait for a 'body only' purchase option and see if the prices drop a bit in the new year, even with 20% VAT. I am pleased that the K-7 grip and batteries are compatible with the K-5. Oh, I also have a buyer for my K20D and grip, so that will kick off the funding.

well that new sony camcorder I was eying is now a no go.

the batteries in it are the exact dimensions and capacities as the ones in my sony sr12...

buuuutttt

Sony is pick pocketing it's customers again.... identical battery, with a plastic tab and different microchip in it so it is not able to swap batteries with the sr12 nor vice versa.... having two sets of identical on the outside but incompatible batteries would be a serious pain in the a$$ and wallet for me.... especially when shooting a wedding...
that means the k-5 with battery grip is a better option......

that is the main gripe I have with Sony...

Call me a hypocrite! Well I can changed my mind from my earlier post. I love my K7, but the ISO is really begining to niggle me at times, which is why I have ordered a K5. However, the K7 & The K5 will be working together though so the K7 wont feel left out, the cameras may have feelings you know!

I figured you only live once, so enjoy life and treat yourself to the things that make life more enjoyable.
