K5, was it worth the wait?

I'm all in. Just need the bucks for it first.

I almost upgraded to a kx in may, but decided to wait til photokina.

I have a K10d, from 2007, so the upgrade is really something I look forward too.

It's the iso that does it for me, and that's the primary reason to upgrade. Indoor-low light is always a problem and since I don't think K10 does a good enough job at Iso800, it's going to be a charm

I will definitely be buying one once the price drops a bit. I had been wanting to upgrade from my now elderly K100D Super for a long time, but due to adverse comments about the K-7's higher ISO performance I decided to hold off. I'm glad I did now, the K-5 will give me pretty much everything I want and with the new prime lens should vastly improve my low light working.

I think for many of us new cameras are not a regular option, so there will likely have been three more models out before I'm ready to change cameras once again. As many members have said before, you can spend all your time waiting for perfection to arrive, but the important thing is to get out there and take pictures and not sit here worrying about what comes next.

I've taken over 45,000 pictures with my old K100D in spite of its limitations, sometimes it's up to the user to learn how to get the best out of whatever camera they're using rather than expecting manufacturers to design all the difficulty out of it for us!

It does aperture and shutter combinations, so what limitations?

Very poor performance with fast moving objects when shooting at ISO800 or above mainly, I live in Lancashire, it's wet, dark and gloomy here most of the time!

I'm pretty sure the wet dark and gloomy area is called the UK and not Lancashire

Don has given us very detailed reasoning on k10 to k5 upgrade. I have a k20 and think for me the k5 does offer more - particularly in the Sensor and AF improvements - what do other k20 owners think

Exactly the same. I do a lot of low light shooting so the high ISO performance is worth it alone. And there's never anything wrong with better AF performance.

I'm in as soon as the price drops from the initial excess.


Also, I stated not so long ago that I wasn't interested in video. But I'm starting to change my mind after seeing the results of stuff made on a K-7

I had a K20D, and am impatiently awaiting my K5. October 18th is just after my birthday .

I see they also have the Optio RZ10, at not such a bad price. Sadly it comes out just too late for what I need one for. I'll end up getting a Panasonic instead.

Just be checking Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.de - .co.uk is cheaper for the K5 - €1307.51 vs €1459 body only, at today's rates, but .de offers free postage to NL, which .co.uk doesn't.
Both are cheaper than the one shop which has it on pre-order in the Netherlands.

But mine is on order in Watford so it's theoretical anyway, for me.

No sign of the K5 18-135 kit though - despite Pentax at Photokina saying it would be available as a kit at the same time as the body.

Edit just spotted Amazon.de are offering the 18-135 as a kit with the K-r, but not the K5 .

Further edit - they also have the K5 18-135 for €1949 .

I'm certainly considering a K5. I hope that I can hold my horses until the price has come down a little...

I'm happy with my K20 and don't really feel limited by it. Better low light performance would be certainly useful...

I'm sure I remember seeing that the 18-135 wasn't going to come until November - presumably it takes longer to set up an entirely new production line for lenses, as opposed to just putting slightly different bits in existing camera bodies.

Where this leaves people who want to buy it in kits is probably down to the retailer... you might get a camera and a lens later, you might have to wait...

I asked at Photokina - they said the 18-135 kits would be available mid October, along with the body, separate sales would be later.

Given the high price of the lens, tempting as it is, I shall go for just the body I think. I already have the 17-70 and 50-135, so can't really justify it. My husband is already forking out a small fortune on the body for me.
