K5, was it worth the wait?

believe it...it is fast...
So I expect this one will be under the tree for Christmas or perhaps in a basket for Easter.... if I bug the wife enough about it I may even get one hurled at my head... who knows...

a solid upgrade from the k10 in every respect....

Looks to me like it would be a good upgrade from my current k20 - nice to have the opportunity of high ISO and the supposed faster AF. Also, ISO display in the viewfinder is very handy (which I believe the k7 had anyway) However, I do think R&D would be better spent on still photography on a flagship dSLR. If I want moving pictures I'll use a video camera - the correct tool for the job. That aside, I skipped the k7 but I think I'll grab a k5. My only concern is that that's a lot of pixels to cram into a cropped sensor...

I'm at work and the link's not working, slow connection. If it's the new lens that's responsible for the speed increase I'll be saving my money for SDM MkII lenses

A good point. I'd have been really excited if there were fewer pixels. I guess marketers don't know I exist.

yeah that link is slow, best to load it let it muddle through, once then play it back a second time and it'll play right...

as far a pixels and video is concerned....

who cares about pixel counts if you got good noise control at high iso and can shoot lower res on demand if you want less pixels.

as for video.... check out the price on 35 mm lens adaptors or ultra wide, fisheye, or ultra telephoto lens adaptors for hd cams and you'll quickly realize the d-slr is the right tool for videomakers needing specific shots... I could easily spend $10,000.00 on video gear to replicate a few views my pentax lenses already create... that is too much cost for a small town Wedding business...

that's Live View AF though, which uses a different method - what about those of us over the age of 25 who look through the viewfinder...

(they really need to have AF option for video though...)

I used Liveview to focus for the first time ever this morning .. it was a lot slower than that I can tell you. Quite handy as long as its very dark outside and you have nothing reflecting off the screen.

Nope. not at all.

I have a K10 and K20. There was nothing in the K7 that made me wanna buy one. it still had the not so good high ISO performance and you still couldn't turn off the hideous dark frame. In fact one of the reasons I bought the K10D after The K20D was because I could have a body without it.

The K-5 has gone someway to addressing the dark frame crap by allowing it's disablement at speeds under 30s, and it also promises a much better high ISO performance. The promised improved AF is nothing to be sniffed at either.

Me too. I would have been happier at 12MP and better performance to be honest.

I usually do portraits with the 50 1.4 and 100 macro 2.8....
this feature looks really appealing to me...

100mm macro.

Now I have the new one, I am using the 100mm - providing you get dof right it produces good stuff.
