iPad or iPad Which One?

Stefan.

You say that most content quality is pretty low (using it everyday, strangely enough, I disagree).

As a student, would you really say that about iTunes U ?

Oh, and by the way, it's all free, and is staying on topic as it all runs on the iPad, as well as the iPhone and others.

Time to prove a point now, and this is for everybody, so lets have some fun!! Content, ease of getting it, ease of using it, good user experience:-

If you don't already have it, please download iTunes on to your PC or Mac and setup an iTunes account.

Run iTunes and type 'photography' into the search box

You will find:-

1,000s of apps that work already on the ipod touch or iPhone. That will also work on the iPad

1,000s of free podcasts including official Adobe Lightroom video podcasts as just one of many useful examples, which will also work on the iPad

100s of free lessons and lectures from universities, museums etc from around the world, which, yes will work on the iPad.

Most of this is actually of some use to most if not all of the people on this forum.

Now, pick what you want and download it.

Then imagine it all on your phone, audio, video and apps. Plug it in, select what you want on it. Press Sync. Done.

Now imagine it all on the iPad. Plug it in, select what you want, Press Sync. Done.

Some of you will think 'meh' could get it elsewhere, some of you will think 'hmmm, that's handy', others will think 'actually, thats pretty damn good.'

It depends what the person using the computer wants to do. Worth bearing in mind that Macs tend to come bundled with more "out of the box", plus there should be a premium because at the end of the day they generally do look and feel nicer than a PC and are more space efficient.
They do look nicer than most PCs, yes, and for the sort of user who wants a desktop machine that will go nicely with the curtains and is prepared to pay well over the odds, they're not a bad bet until they break down.

Go ahead make a list and please put them into content with the rest around them so don't pick one line out of a whole comment.
I've already done that!!

I could add to it, but it will take up too much of my time.

Precisely a different point of view, you can jump high or low about it.

But basicly all you're saying is that the iPad is a large iPhone, I believe that was already put to the point in the first page....

Also we dicuss this already.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. What an extraordinarily bland comment. With over 140,000 Apps to chose from I'm sure even you could find a handful that would be very useful Stefan. Wow.
Well I said most of the times and an handful out of 140,000 seems pretty accurate then.
But okay, of those 1,000s of apps for photography name 20 (2% or less) that are useful for us as Pentax users.

Yes by putting sentences out of the content so that it looks that it means something else while the comment was about something much bigger and most of the time differnt topic.

And we talked about it afterwards and still we don't have any conclusion we agreed to some points of each other so what I said is white and you said is black is now grey...
Also at some I didn't even got an reaction back from you for example about the batteries and about that's illegal to install OSX on a PC.

To be fair I've had far more trouble with PCs than I had with my Mac, and you could level the "not bad until they break down" criticism at PCs too, just don't forget to include "get a virus" and "just don't want to work".

The only problem I had with my Mac was a hard disk failure (can't really blame Apple for that, it was a WD Caviar SATA drive, same is in many PCs), and it was a piece of cake to put right, bought a new one and did it myself (and I'm not particularly good with computers).

And despite the rather scoffing nature of your "goes with the curtains" comment, this is a consideration made by many consumers, as people spend fortunes on interior designing and don;t want to ruin it by putting a big, ugly, noisy PC in the corner of their living room.

As I said before it's all a case of what is best for different people, and if you can't/won't see that (and beyond what you believe suits you) there's little point carrying on posting in this thread.
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

Apparently.

You say that as if that isn't a valid reason for purchase.
I don't think it's a very good reason for an MP3 player or a phone, but whether it is or it isn't, the important point is not to confuse it with the usability or quality of the product.

Quote:
I think maybe when you're saying a "better alternative" you're making that judgement from your own perspective, considering your own needs.
No, I don't necessarily mean that. There are, for example, plenty of user-friendly and highly functional MP3 players, and smart phones.
YOU don't think it's a good reason for purchaing a certain mp3 player, but many people would disagree with you. And I'm not confusing fashion with sound quality or useability, I think I've made it quite clear all along that these are different factors people consider when making a purchase. And different types of people place different emphasis on different variables, so that for an audiophile a Cowon S9 might be the "best" option, but for vast majority it's the iPod.

I'm struggling to see what part of this you can't/won't grasp.

That's because that are accused of having a monopoly position and it's not right to see the Apple can get away with more things.
Although Microsoft did some very bad things also so it's choosing the lesser of the bad ones... Linux

robbie_d wrote:
The one thing you'll notice missing from my past and current line-ups though is a Windows Mobile device, and with good reason. Worst operating system ever...
Well it's bad indeed, I'm glad most have make a shell around it and it does run now pretty well, at least I don't have any problems so far after 2 years.
I'm now looking at Android phones, the OS looks interesting but I never tried them and I need to look up the bad things about them.
That statement has no relevance whatsoever to the point I made (which was about Macs having more preloaded software "out of the box" compared to PCs).

And the last statement is very telling, focusing on the can'ts rather than the cans...

How many times are you going to bang on about your alleged lab full of broken macs? Do you, who is apparently some kind of IT professional, seriously believe that Apple hardware has a failure rate any different to Windows PCs?

Just for the record, I also support Macs (in addition to PCs). Around 40 Macs at last count, going on for about 4 years now. I have had one hardware fault in that time, a hard drive in a 12 year old G3 server died.

Well yes it's important because Microsoft isn't allowed to any more to give windows so much out of the box because it need to give other software manufactures the change to sell their products, in the EU they even are providing now a super clean version with just windows and a few standard programs.
It's probably comes down that Apple makes OS for their own products and Microsoft for someone else their products so in that aspect you might not compare the both.

ah, how so?
I already know much about the cans and I just want to know what troubles there might be in the long run in terms of software, and basicly there is no difference between the can's and cant's because all I want is an answer.

With iPhone you've the appstore of course and I know where to get windows mobile stuff since I already have them and I would like to know if I can get the same things on the android and how the stability is of the OS, it's most likely better then Windows mobile though... oh wait I can't think negatively about a product because you get mad...

Stefan.

I officially give up.

It's pointless trying to debate with some one who makes things up, won't research and can't read.

Did you actually bother going to iTunes and having a look? If you did, you wouldn't make such condescending comment as

An IT specialiset I know is very enthusiastic about Android. That doesn't mean it's the best choice for everyone though and most users will probably be inclined towards the iPhone first. We have alreeady decided to move to iPhone within the next couple of weeks.

Staggeringly useful and fantastic to have another mobile access point into the web and e-mail.
Best regards, John

Thanks for the list, I was missing one or two of these apps that may come in handy on my iPod Touch.

No probs Photomonk!

Out of that lot, I have Photocalc on my iPhone which has a DoF calculator, flash exposure guide, location aware solar calculator, Exposure Reciprocation calculator, Glossary, Zone System, Sunny 16 Rules and filter references. Very useful app.

Now that I've done this quick search, gonna get some more, starting with Strobox!

I just picked up Field Tools and Strobox. I have to check on Photocalc, but if it has some great reviews, it will be on my Touch before the day is out. These are the things we should comparing and sharing.

OH, I do not know if this app is available only in the US, but Tiffen's Photofx is also a great apps for editing on the Touch/iPhone. I forget what it cost, but I really like it. So there are more that can be added to the list as far as photography is concerned.
