I know the feeling Mike.
Reading e-mails from my niece, a teacher no less, takes forever as I can't always work out her txtspk, poor grammar and other mistakes. Capital letters don't seem to exist in her world, nor any punctuation mark.
I tell her she can spell words in full with e-mail, but she seems incapable of doing so. I pity the children she teaches if she really can't do better.

Eventually they will enter the dictionary as "the way" to spell. Another useless piece of information gleaned from a science programme. Older people tend to press a door bell with the index finger. Due to games console controllers and texting, the younger generations will do it with the thumb.

I know I'm getting old because I actually considered, if only for a second, buying a pair of slippers while shopping recently. Fortunately, I caught myself and resisted. They were even BROWN! - Yes. A man knows when he's getting old when it seems like a good idea to own a pair of slippers.
Confirmation will come when I start wearing pyjamas again, for the first time since childhood.
The temptation for an afternoon 'Power nap' is growing, too!

No man is worth his salt, who has not been banned from at least one Forum, and two Flickr groups.

It drives me spare. I think I must have been the last generation to bother to learn to use proper words.
Most of it isn't even "txt spk", it's just a mix of ignorance and laziness, especially when they add random extra letters. If regarding them as the lowest form of humanity makes me elitist then fine, I'll cheerfully accept the label!
I have exactly the same education available to any other individual, at least where English language is concerned. If I can use proper words then why can't everyone?

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise… They contradict their parents, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.” -Plato quoting Socrates 400BC.

Hrm, well I'm not sure if I'm old or young then. I'm 30, married, and ring the bell with a mixture of my thumb and index finger, but predominately my index finger. When I text I sometimes use text speak, but only half the time. Does that mean I'm both old and young at the same time... hmmm
My back told me this morning that I'm old. Damn gardening!

I'm old just about to put slippers on, and have a power nap, in preparation for the grandchildren's arrival.

What's this 'texting'?
Is it the yoof's new slang for writing a letter?

"just text normal words, the 'breviations are out of date"
Mmm, nice cardy...
