Stefan, do Dutch people use Dutch text speak or is this just a phenomenon in English?

I hate txt spk, whether in Norwegian or English. It induces bad habits and is a pain to read. For one who have lived by writing for some years, I do appreciate well written text and good grammar.

It exists in Dutch too. Though it often becomes Nedlish - a mixture of the two languages .

It's that I'm very used to T9 so it's faster for me to type whole words although when I hit the max of letters for the SMS I often delete some letters to make it fit

That's understandable Stefan - I'm lucky I have the option of several hundreds of characters on my mobile that's in normal use [ in the UK] The one I use in Europe is on Carrefour Belgium and limits me to 170ish characters [ it's an old Nokia - very old ]
If I'm in Europe [ where I will be after Friday for a week ] I switch to the old phone and use my Belgian number - it's actually cheaper than using Virgin mobile UK .

I believe it was 240 or 360 characters I ain't sure any more but abroad they half that number.
Also the cellphone has nothing to do with the character limit you need to blame your provider for that.

I hate it when I hear people say they "Texted" someone, When they mean they sent them a text.
I have some nice brown slippers and another pair in blue that are used for venturing outside to the garden or the garage!

Yesterday, in the local paper, in an article on education, the "Education Reporter" confused "incidents" and "instances" and used a neologism "incidences" (meaning, I suppose, incidents).
I guess, I shouldn't be too hard on her, as a past Minister for Education did exactly the same thing "on air" a few years ago.

What really gets me is people holding conversations via text.
For example my daughter will text the wife:
Am I coming up for tea?
If you want
What time are you picking me up
I'll come down straight from work
OK, what are we having
Whatever your Dad wants to make
OK, see you soon
Wouldn't it be cheaper just to make one call?

George was always a stickler for correct grammar and spelling. He would enjoy this thread, and correct a few others where lens is misspelt.
He seems to only be lurking nowadays, after some heated discussions here.
